Overview:
The latest and thus far last attempt of the Blackshield Company's R&D department to design a
'mech whose large scale production is viable, the SRKR-80A 'Shrieker' is the opposite of one
would call a culmination of knowledge. Utilizing none of the advanced systems that the
Cerberon and Battlelord have been gifted with, the humble Shrieker's only unique feature is
the use of Endo-steel armor to save on weight.
This deliberate exclusion of advanced systems has led to a surprisingly cheap and incredibly
light mech that combines good speed and armor with a pair of ER Large lasers that allow
engagement at all ranges and a surprisingly powerful punch. Envisioned as a more realistic
version of what the Battlelord's initial concept promised, these qualities allow the
Shrieker to act as a genuinely mass produced 'mech that can be reliably and consistently
used in frontline scenarios, either with other 'mechs, vehicles or just more Shriekers.
This has resulted in there already being more of the SRKR-80A than there are CRBN-55A and
BTLD-65A 'mechs combined despite how incredibly new the design is; a fact that the R&D
department has taken to mean a complete success in both their initial intent and the
resultant final product.
Capabilities:
The SRKR-80A 'Shrieker' is a fairly fast light 'mech with good armor for its weight class.
The two ER Large lasers allow it to fulfil a fire support role at a fairly good range,
allowing it to quickly and effectively supplement a lance's firepower where needed at a
reasonably cheap C-bill or BV cost.
Deployment:
Due to its nature, the SRKR-80A 'Shrieker' is best only relied upon as an extra pair of
guns. In strategic level combat between armies, groups of Shriekers can act as an effective
"filler" unit while maintaining the advantages of a 'mech that combat vehicles lack. On a
more tactical level, the Shrieker excels as a sidekick to bigger and far more expensive
'mechs that may be afforded thanks to its own minimal C-bill and/or BV cost.
In either case, when engaging the enemy, it is important to remember that the SRKR-80A
'Shrieker' has a far greater range that its role might imply. Given correct positioning and
good pilot gunnery, it can fulfil the role of a sniper dangerously well and may even be used
to flank and eliminate enemy rear-line units that lack the armor and durability of proper
frontliners.
Variants:
Due to its unique nature, the SRKR-80A 'Shrieker' has no variants; such a thing could not be
afforded by its creators, the blackshield company, while inner sphere powers have no need to
rely on the relatively primitive technologies of an insignificant Junta in the deep
periphery.
Notable MechWarriors:
Anyone in control and command of a SRKR-80A 'Shrieker' can be regarded as a notable man
within its 'nation' of origin. This, sadly, does not mean that anyone other than said nation
has ever heard of them.
