Should a Mech pilot able to deactivate a capacitor for the whole game or game turn, or off and on with a piloting skill check or not?

Your question is a null question; Capacitors are by base rules selective devices. You already choose when to charge, when to hold a charge, and when to release a charge; no PSR needed. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I was asking about disabling the device all together or bypass it then bring on line during combat, using house rules almost like taking weapons offline in the video games I played, but giving who the game works who to do that with in the game turns.

not losing your ppc with a dice roll, I think flexibility but it is a very flawed point that I bring up, and a little computer control I try to force in the game that is a bit crunchy.
stirring the pot also

Do you think the video games are responsible for this idea?

The capacitor is not activated per default. You choose to activate it. If you don‘t it’s „deactivated“.
So there is no need to deactivate it before a battle. Just don‘t use it. _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' My idea of bypassing a weapons or PPC capacitor; via piloting skill check or to bring it online, without regard of the rules.

I don't think you're expressing your idea well, because what you initially described is already possible to do without any change to rules what-so-ever. Don't want the capacitor on, declare it's off. Want to turn it on, declare it's on. Can toggle every turn. Why have a pilot check at all? That makes no sense. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

the idea is not really fleshed out so I was bouncing the idea here, I guess the question is how to house rule it for one on one CBT games, almost like the second mechwarrior series computer games, with link fire or chain fire or group fire, and I remember take some weapons off offline.

But why? Why bog the game down with a null mechanic? You can role play your mechwarrior taking a jammed UAC offline if you want without bothering with a mechanic to do so. Their is no need or purpose to creating a mechanic that serves no function and doesn't benefit the game.
As for Weapon Groups, Battletech has had optional rules for link fire since Maximum Tech in 1997. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Good points I just do not like the Idea of a weapon upgrade with such a potential loss without some kind of work around, maybe I need to think about more.

What loss?
As we have said multiple times now, you select when to charge, discharge, or fire a PPC Capacitor. You only risk weapon burnout WHEN you fire the capacitor. You can fire the PPC regularly ALL DAY without risk by electing not to charge and use the capacitor.
So what loss are you referring too? I think you are really misunderstand how the capacitor works. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
