================================================================================================
Overview:
A rare conversion of standard Warhammer WHM-7K, the 'Sho-sa' was unique to the 2nd An Ting
Legion, and performed using a commercially available refit kit and some ingenuity.
Capabilities:
After the clan invasion, the heavy damage to the regiment resulted in a need for a full
rebuild, and surprisingly enough the regiment was earmarked for new designs. Included in
this major upgrade in capabilities to the 2nd An Ting legion were both brand new designs,
and battlemechs like the WHM-7K. This did present an interesting problem - while many of the
newly given battlemechs had C3 Slave systems added, battlemechs with the performance and
speed the Legion insisted on having that also carried C3 Masters were in very high demand.
Thinking outside the box, the staff officers and maintenance crews came up with an
effective, if unorthodox solution. manufacturers using some creative accounting. Two and a
half tons of armor and a pair of double heat sinks were removed from a standard WHM-7K,
along with the TAG designator. With the freed weight and space inside the battlemech, a C3
Master computer was installed into the battlemech. Commercially available CASE refit kits
were sourced from Federated Commonwealth and also installed at the request of one of the
senior officers, in order to protect the ammunition. No weaponry was removed from the design
- which had both advantages and disadvantages. With less heat sinks, heat management of this
customization was worse than the base variant, and the reduction to 11 tons of armor
protection, mostly stripped from the legs. This was considered an acceptable compromise
though, as surviving Warhammer pilots from the fighting during the Clan Invasion were happy
to have even this minor improvement in protection over their WHM-6K's.
The result was a battlemech that was an effective lance leader and company commander when
linked with its fellows, with the 2nd Company of the 3rd Battalion fielding the entirety of
these modifications and creating a fully linked heavy battlemech company that often operated
in the spearhead of any action. With direct fire ranges matching many clan battlemechs and
enough cooling to fire both ER PPC's on the move, the modification would never see combat
against its planned foes. While only a handful were ever made, the 'Sho-sa' would prove an
effective stopgap until they were replaced in this role of the Avatar omnimech by the 2nd An
Ting Legion just before Operation Bulldog, and these battlemechs were restored to their
original configuration.
