Overview:
Research for the mech that would become the Sun Crusher began in the Lyran Alliance in the
midst of the fedcom civil war. It was intended to be a relatively cheap and nimble Omnimech
capable of replacing a variety of older medium mechs. It was ultimately shelved for
budgetary reasons with the Alliance opting for upgrading the old and reliable medium mechs
instead.
Post Jihad production rights were acquired within the Cappelen Confederation. They now use
it to fill their increasingly modernizing ranks and for export to other States eager to
realm, such as the Lyran Commonwealth.
Capabilities:
The base chassis has 20 tons of Omnipod space available. 10.5 tons of armor are distributed
such as that the core sections can absorb fire from even a large bore cannon and not need
extensive repair. This comes at a cost as the rear armor is so thin a bad fall can cause
structural damage.
The speed is completely standard for escorting heavier forces and supporting them. Many
configurations augment their mobility with jumpjets. Asymmetrical jump jet configurations
are an unfortunate consequence of equally asymmetric main omni bays intended to allow even
the largest of weapons the potential to be installed.
This puts considerable strain on the advanced gyro. This increases its maintenance needs
noticeably, but is balanced by how easy and reliable the rest of the mech is.
