Overview:
See the [BASE] configuration for the history behind this mech. This and the following files
will focus more on the technical capabilities of each configuration.
Capabilities:
At first glance the Obsidian Idol is a fairly typical assault mech.
Maneuverability is on par with almost every 100 ton mech ever made. Armor
coverage is actually lighter then average with only 18.5 tons of standard armor
covering the chassis. What truly makes this mech is the weapons capacity. 59
tons of available pod space allows the Obsidian Idol to carry an unmatched bite.
The I configuration is the last known configuration. The long awaited ATM variant, this
Obsidian Idol is capable of unheard of levels of short range firepower, while still
projecting devastating firepower at medium and long ranges.
Variants:
At least 2 more configurations of the Obsidian Idol should exist. One is an artillery
variant. The other is an indirect fire LRM platform. You wouldn't expect it to be too
difficult to throw something together on an Omnimech, but in this case the Obsidian Idol's
prestige works against it. Any new configuration can't be just workable, it must be
devastating. Anything less would be an affront to the dignity and reputation of the mech.

So comparisons between the United Freemens Brane and our own are going to happen. Initially
it looked like our realities started differentiating around the time of the pentagon wars.
With the extra information garnered by the children of NIHM, we can show the split happened
earlier, going back to at least the exodus fleet, and probably much sooner. The earliest
confirmed change was a jumpship in the exodus fleet not getting stranded. Passengers on
that ship would replace a few members of Clan Widowmaker. Which lead them to being a bit
less back stabby to Clan Wolverine. So Clan Wolverine lasted a bit longer. Clan widowmaker
lasted a bit longer. The Wolves eventually absorbed them, but it was later and cost more.
By this point historical figures in our history are no longer being born. Small scale
changes are taking over, but the psycho-history still has inertia. The inner sphere
presumably still followed the same history. Until the Wolf's Dragoons didn't happen. At
which point the cascading history change started affecting them too. So on one hand the
inner sphere did not have tutors, but the Clans didn't have as much intel. The 4rth
succession war was kicked off by the emergence of the federated commonwealth, but it was
the Kaptyen Accord members who started it trying to close the corridor between Davion and
Steiner space.
The Clan invasion at this point was similar but also different. More Inner Sphere forces
were present, but were also of inferior technology. Overall it was still progressing
faster, especially when Tyra Miraborg didn't exist by this point. The result was Comstar
playing their hand earlier, still stopping the invasion at Tukayyid. The terms differed,
creating a sphere around Terra that was inviolate for 10 years. And the invasion could only
begin again if the clans could take Tukayyid first, or after 100 years.
Tukayyid became the most fortified planet in the inner sphere. Comstar started the process
of reforming the Star League just to get enough troops to garrison the planet. This
included starting technical upgrades. This lead to the Schism from the shear heresy from
Blake's vision. And promptly ended the possibility of the Jihad as the nascent star league
put it down. It also ended Comstar as a power player since the secular forces opted to come
clean about comstars manipulations for the last few hundred years.
The equivalent of operation bulldog was the price to get the Draconis combine fully on
board. A dynastic marriage the price for the Cappelen confederation. Persephone
Steiner-Davion-Liao, born on Sian and raised on the capital world's of each great house was
proclaimed First lord of the Star League in 3090. Which had to be awkward since her
grand-mother was the leader of house Steiner. Her Father the leader of the Cappelen
confederation. Mother was in charge of House Davion. Her Aunt was the head of the
Federated Commonwealth wealth. She was married to the Draconis combine's head of state, and
the captain general was her god-parent. Needless to say it was awhile before she grew into
an effective leader, but goodwill and tutors who weren't out to back stab her eventually
saw her to being a very effective leader. Which means only minor rebellions broke out when
she decreed hereditary peerages of Baron or higher must marry outside their nation for
purposes of producing an heir.
