Overview:
See the [BASE] configuration for the history behind this mech. This and the following files
will focus more on the technical capabilities of each configuration.
Capabilities:
At first glance the Obsidian Idol is a fairly typical assault mech.
Maneuverability is on par with almost every 100 ton mech ever made. Armor
coverage is actually lighter then average with only 18.5 tons of standard armor
covering the chassis. What truly makes this mech is the weapons capacity. 59
tons of available pod space allows the Obsidian Idol to carry an unmatched bite.
Configuration E was created at a warrior's request. She had a natural knack
for using Gauss rifles over any other weapon, and this configuration serves her
capabilities well. Backing up the quad of Gauss rifles are two pairs of Medium
lasers offering medium range firepower, and short range punch respectively.
Despite being designed for one Mechwarrior use of this configuration is not
singular. Others who choice to use this configuration often state that they
feel this configuration is more aesthetically pleasing then other
configurations, its simple weapon symmetry offering some indefinable quality
that improves their own performance.
Deployment:
Though initially designed and perfected for a single Mechwarrior, use of this configuration
has grown over the years. Which kind of makes sense as both 2nd and 3rd generation
decendants of her giftake currently serve in the Ebon Keshik, and they all share her
original aptitude for Gauss Rifles.
Variants:
It's not uncommon to see the Heavy Medium lasers removed along with the extra heat sinks in
favor of additional ammo. Which is a more then fair trade given that pilots who favor this
configuration rarely need backup weapons.
Notable MechWarriors:
Star Captain Laurie Myers is the mechwarrior who started the process that would create the E
Configuration. Nearly a perfect marksman already her proficiency with Gauss rifles allowed
nearly super natural shots to be taken. She is in the Goliath Scorpion Rememberance for
decapitating 4 mechs at once. Twice. In a row. This impressed both her fellow Clansmen and
the SLDF on huntress. Who directed a head hunter air strike just to take her out. The Star
Legue forces were still evicted from Clan space by the end of that campaign.
