Something Talen said sparked this thought. What is the best table top game in your opinion? Why/why not?
I personally think the Renegade Legion series of games, Centurion, Interceptor and Leviathan are the best games for pure game playability, integration of different systems and realism. However I do NOT care for the black and white nature of the TOG vs. Renegades/Commonwealth of the universe.
BattleTech is my personal favorite for universe reasons. I absolutely love the gray in all factions, well all except the Capellans . The basic game itself is also pretty cool, secondly only to the way Renegade Legion does it damage. My main gripe with BattleTech is the time it takes to play, but hey nothin' is perfect.
What the rest of your think?

I would have to go with either Parcheesi or tiddly-winks....
.....nahh, just kidding.
I guess I'd have to say "Axis and Allies" (if we are allowed to pick board games) and "battletech" if we are not allowed to pick board games.

I can't give you "the best",but I can give you my favorites:
Sci-fi genre: Battletech of course, with all it's different incarnations (Aerotech, battlespace, battleforce 2, succession wars, mechwarrior, batttletroops, nova combat books, but I'll leave out MWDA cause I have not played it and won't until my bro teaches me)
Fantasy Genre: 2nd edition Talisman, yeah it's a boardgame, but you use kewl minis and there are a lot of diffent tactics to use against other players, along with battling the board itself.
Super-hero genre: Marvel HeroClix, very fun and fast paced.

My choices are Battletech of course, and the various other games of the series, I've a soft spot for Battletroops.
Bloodbowl, the first edition was also very good, even if it degenerate in battles instead of football matches. The Blood bolw companion was wicked!
A personal favorite is Blue Max, a game of World War I aerial combat, done by GDW. Of course the game has its flaws and recquires a lot of additional rules to be fully satisfactory, but the game system is a jewel. It's the only aerial wargame that truly captures the excitement of a dogfight.
And with all the scores of planes available, it's has the same feeling as of Battletech, plus the period allows for great campaign games.
Of course I didn't mention the greatest game of all, it was said that God doesn't play with dice, and the only game worthy of the gods is...
chess

All out best, I would have to go with Vampire and say the all time best is Chess.
I'm no top player of the game and never thought I was even medium good at it. But although it was about 17 years ago I'll never forget the time I got bored in woodshop class at the end of my senior year and made a chess board. We spent the last month of school playing chess and I beat about two dozen people, most of them more than once and left high school the undefeated chess champ of Mr. Smith's woodworking class.
I played the game now and then in college, but not since. But I still have that woodshop chess board. _________________ "Those who beat their guns into plows will plow for those with guns..." -Thomas Jefferson

I think that there are some great boardgames...Monopoly, Stratego, Rail Barons and Wooden Ships and Iron men.

Here, Here, Vampire!!!
I forgot to mention Chess.
I saw some fellas playing Blue Max at a gaming con a while ago. Looks great!
Also, I forgot to mention another great Sci-Fi minis game. Legions of Steel. Easy, fast-paced, man-versus-machines battle-to-the-death action! For all you New England locals, I'll be running a Legions of Steel scenario at TotalCon this year! Be sure to sign up --space is limited (4 players, max, I think).

This thread should be moved to the general gaming board, I believe
>I saw some fellas playing Blue Max at a gaming con a while ago. Looks great!
The game is long out of print, but the beauty of it is that you can get all you need to play easily.
The Rules set: The Blue Max Miniatures Games can be found in the net, if I'm not mistaken. There is a improved set named Canvas Eagles, also available for free download. The latter is much better in regards to the actual flight characteristics of the planes and in detail, but has the disadvantage of botching the altitude system
I'ts a mix and max of the best points of both systems.
The board: Any hexgrid board with hexes big enough to handle the countes will do. Playing with a board is way simpler than using minis rules
The counters:
If you can get hold of the original airplane counters from Blue Max, so much the better, but you can use counters from other games as well, 1/144 scale lead miniatures, cheap and eaisily found in the Net, or for the truly hardcore, you can use 1/72 model kits on stands.
The technical readouts: There is a lot of books on the subject, and you can find loads of information in the Net.
Defintely one of the best gaming investments you can make _________________ Memento audare semper
