Overview:
As demanded by the 'Mother Doctrine' since 2380 the Terran Hegemony was able to keep its
technological edge over the other states of the Inner Sphere throughout most of its
existence.
Although fielding a lot of mech-types their neighbors also had in their forces, the Hegemony
equipped their mechs with high-tech items unobtainable to their rivals.
Since 2675 the UrbanMech was the much underestimated city defender of the StarLeague and the
armies of the Succession Wars. Meant to be a cheap and rugged mech for militias and pure
defense units, it was never a high priority to put high-tech equipment in it. Nevertheless a
small production run of upgraded UM-TH1 on the initiative of rich town rulers and
industrialists messing with military affairs or that just established a private defense
force.
Capabilities:
Carrying the modern LB10-X auto cannon the UM-TH1 got a greater reach, useful to snipe down
longer streets, and could carry double the ammo capacity. Even though this enabled the
UrbanMech to use the special LB-X cluster ammunition in addition to normal slug, some
critics were of the opinion, that 20 rounds of ammo are to much for the UrbanMechs fighting
style. However a CASE protected the mech from destruction in case of an ammo hit. As the
UM-R60 lacked a real infantry deterrent the Harmon Light laser was swapped for a Martell
pulse variant.
Deployment:
From 2685 on UM-TH1?s reached units that were fielded to defend major cities and industrial
complexes. Sometimes even private, company-owned units. All in all only about a hundred
units were produced.
Variants:
There were brief considerations equipping the UrbanMech with a Beagle Active Probe to better
detect infiltration of enemy infantry and small vehicles into a defended city. But all
proposals were taken down and WSP-TH1's were assigned to the task.
