Overview:
In the wake of the destruction wrought by the Jihad, Archon Adam Steiner set about
stimulating economic growth, especially on Hesperus II, as the Lyran Alliance began to
rebuild itself after 14 years of conflict. Therefore, his government contracted Defiance
Industries to create a modern King Crab model featuring new equipment, yet remaining true to
the original purpose of the 'Mech: to deal massive bursts of (close-range) damage; the Lyran
designers of the KGC-004 had plenty of ideas. The brief they came up with was to produce a
'Mech that could deal as much pinpoint damage as the original KGC-000 could with its two
AC/20s, but that these weapons should be linked to a Targeting Computer.
Knowing that the design would require a large weapons payload, they started out by selecting
a Defiance 300 Light Fusion Engine and an Endo-Composite skeleton to save weight, while a
compact gyro freed up space and was less susceptible to damage. Realising that the targeting
computer would be too bulky if two Autocannon 20 were used, the engineers selected a
Defiance Disintegrator LB 20-X AC, which they split between the Right Arm and Right Torso,
and paired Hound's-tooth Snub-Nose PPCs, which were placed in the Left Arm. To fend off
enemies that try to engage the 'Mech at range, the engineers mounted a highly accurate Large
X-Pulse Laser, while a Defiance B3S Small Laser deters attacks against the KGC-004 from
behind. Both are located in the Center Torso, while the hefty 7-ton Targeting Computer is
placed in the Left Torso. Three tons of CASE II protected LB 20-X AC Ammo in the Right Torso
supplies the mammoth autocannon, while fourteen Double Heat Sinks keep the weapons' heat
buildup well under control, aided by a Coolant Pod in particularly intense combat
situations. Rounding off the design, a full 19 tons of armor was fitted to the KGC-004 to
enable the 'Mech to weather a significant amount of damage before finally succumbing to its
wounds.
The design took Defiance Industries 5 years to bring to fruition, partly due to the effects
of the Jihad but also due to them not having used an endo-composite structure before on any
design. The first battle-ready KGC-004s came off the production line in mid 3084 and went
straight into the newly renamed LCAF. By 3086, production had increased enough that Defiance
could fulfil its contract to the LCAF and have extra -004s to sell to the open market.
However, it did not find its way into the hands of the other great houses until shortly
before the turn of the century.

I've had this one on the backburner for over a year now; and with the recent site update I took it as an opportunity to demonstrate my favourite manufacturer: Defiance Industries! I love how the information page looks now with all the models and specifications included rather than just loads of "unknown"s, great job on the implementation so far mordel!
Just one question, are you gonna add all the models or only certain ones? I was wondering because I found reams of sorted (but mostly unsorted!) models on sarna while looking for the perfect choices for my KGC-004. There were models that you have but that sarna does not too. _________________ Times change.

Glad you like it and are using it for your designs! It was on the list for a long time, but only got bumped when a user asked if I could implement it. I always prioritize user requested enhancements over my own.

I'll create entries for any canon design that has a record sheet. Looking at Sarna, it appears the only one they have that I don't is the KGC-20-A. But it doesn't have a citation, so I don't know where it came from. The MUL doesn't list it either.
As for a lot of others, be sure you filter on canon designs only. I have a feeling a lot of the ones you're seeing that aren't listed on Sarna may be custom designs submitted by users. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
