Overview:
During the Clan Invasion, the Hunchback IIC was seen on many of the front-line units
deployed by the invading Clans. Nicknamed the "Suicide Ride", the battlemech was often used
by Clan Mechwarriors that were desperate for glory and a chance to improve their chances of
gaining a Bloodname, despite its numerous flaws. Such warriors tend to fight aggressively,
and more often than not, end up getting killed or defeated as a result. It was no surprise
that, after the Clan invasion, a multitude of disabled or damaged Hunchback IICs lay astrewn
all over the battlefields, with some of them only disabled because the pilot was killed via
headshot. Despite the Hunchback IIC's faults, the allure of possibly having a fully
functional Clan-tech battlemech led mercenaries under the employ of the Federated
Commonwealth, Free Rasalhague Republic, Draconis Combine, and ComStar to attempt to recover
one of these mechs.
One of those mercenaries, the Bakanekos, managed to recover one of these much-maligned
battlemechs, although their recovered Hunchback IIC has one of the Ultra AC/20 Autocannons
too badly damaged to salvage, no ammo left for the remaining functional Ultra AC/20, and has
virtually no armor left, though the legs and arms were still intact.
However, like most mercenaries, the Bakanekos make do with what they have, and after some
significant modifications, have created a decent "Swayback IIC" out of their battered
Hunchback IIC. Their variation was known as the "Fullback"
Capabilities:
Like any "Swayback", the "Fullback" trades the mammoth Ultra AC/20s for less cumbersome
weapons. By removing the powerful, but unusable guns, 26 tons were freed up for use
elsewhere. However, the Bakanekos opted to leave the mech's main body virtually unchanged
(a.k.a. retaining the jump jets where they were located, and keeping the 200XL fusion
engine), leaving the "Fullback" looking similar to the original Hunchback IIC.
Unlike the original Hunchback IIC, the "Fullback" rebuild was designed so that it could stay
on the battlefield for long periods of time, and engage enemies at any range. Thus, each
side torso now sported an ER PPC in lieu of the original Ultra AC/20; though lacking the raw
firepower of the latter, the non-ammo dependance and increased range more than made up for
it. For close-range, the "Fullback" has 6 ER Medium Lasers (two per arm, and two on the
center torso) that it could count on. A Small Pulse Laser on the left torso rounds out the
armament, to deter infantry attacks. Seventeen double heat sinks were installed to give the
"Fullback" a reasonable degree of heat dissipation.
Finally, the "Fullback" was also better armored than its original incarnation, mounting 10
tons' worth of Standard Armor.
Deployment:
Initially, there was only one "Fullback", and it was fielded by the Bakanekos mercenary
unit. The Bakanekos would later salvage two more Huncback IICs, converting both into
"Fullbacks" as well.
