Fluff: This is a generic mech used by almost every major house, and by a few clans. While the weapons may vary, the use is the same. This mech was made to train armored and unarmored infantry. The biggest complaint about the mech is the danger of the flamer to infantry. This weapon is usually held back until the infantry is better trained, replaced by a small laser that is powered down and later powered up. In the first battles the infantry is wearing a suit, or battle armor, with sensors which register the laser hits. As for the machine gun, it is filled with rubber pellets at first, but is quickly changed to live ammo.

Maybe the machine should be slower and the extra tonnage used to add JJs to familiarize infantry with flying robots?
Why not just modify the existing Stinger design to fill this roll?

The mech's speed could be lowered to add jets. The mech is meant to be different depending on who is using it. The design I posted is just a generic design.
As for using a Stinger, that could work. But I was looking to design a small mech, which would use weapons that may be a bit outdated (notice the use of level 1 tech), whereas the Stinger would be needed for a front-line role and may be equipped with higher levels of tech. Plus with the Trainer Mech, the flamer could be replaced with a laser that simulates different size weapons during non-live fire training. This is opposed to the Stinger, which would have to be specially customized for training.

I would imagine that it would be possible to switch out the Stinger's primary weapon, Medium Laser, for some Smalls or Flamers to gain the variation of weaponry you desire. Heck I do not see why you could not drop an MG or two and do the same.
Would it not be more cost effective to just produce a few more Stingers [level 1 of course] instead of having to have another whole plant/line for these new machines? Also this would be familarizing the troops with an actual 'Mech that they would be likely to be facing on the battlefield.
I really do not have anything against you design, just wondering if it is worth having it around.

I agree, the Stinger is a good trainer....Because it sucks at everything else....
Sir HEnry, I'll stick to the Stinger LAM....

Actually, it probably would be cost efficent. The chance of a factory going dead in 3050+ era is quite good, because older designs are less seen. But, if you have a need for a 3025+ mech, you can hire a company that is going out of business, and that would cost less. You could bring older Stingers back from the war, but they would have to be replaced, which would cost more. And chances are, once the factory has started to produce the new era mechs, they will not return to old era mechs. Which means you will have no more Stinger (3025) production.
