quite curious. i suppose it's theoretically possible to have internally contained oxygen containers to provide the scramjet combustion chambers with the "air" they need for supersonic thrust.

I'm not sure of what you are asking.
Why would a scram-jet need an internal air bottle for air supply? The whole point is that it utilizes supersonic air flows for its air supply.

I think this is an attempt to obtain a fluff for super-effective aerospace engine. Which is nonsensical.
The bottles would have to be HUGE and there's no reason to have this arrangement really. Standard BT engines allow for unlimited acceleration as long as they have enough fuel.

Yah, to answer the question in the title, Aerofighter engines are better then Scramjets at least in the lore. It is my understanding that Aerofighters use a method similar to a Nuclear thermal rocket but WAYYYY more efficient and capable of higher thrust values.

So aerofighters don't need to 'breath' at all, and put out A LOT of thrust... 48 meters/sec atmosphere and 300 meters/sec space per thrust point.
A 20t aerofighter with a 20 rated fusion engine can produce 1.5 g of safe thrust and 2.5 of overthrust. 20000 kg * 14.715 m/s[s] = 294300 N of thrust or 294 kN. The engines on a F-22 are rated at 160 kN.
