The weapon that put the nail in the coffin of the AC/5.
LPPC + 4 HS = 7t and 6c
AC/5 + 1 ammo = 9t and 5c
Same range and damage profile. Energy based so can be used underwater and windy/low grav environments.
Its just... better. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

But very deep indeed. ACs should have received an upgrade to UAC range profiles IMO after 3060's if not sooner. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I always liked the idea that someone once posted of using alternate damage for the lighter ACs, turning the 2 into a 3 and the 5 into a 7. Dont know if the AC7 can compete with a LPPC but it at least gives it a chance to come out at midnight and scare the wee kids a bit. _________________ The JadeDragon

The ability to use special ammo types can be mentioned in favor of the AC/5.
If that counters the weight savings of the LPPC everybody has to decide himself _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Yes, the special munitions are all that saves the AC/5 from fossilhood. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Light PPC is better than AC5 in pretty much ever aspect save for special munitions. OK so here is the next question does the Light PPC replace the Large Laser?
An equal tonnage of the two....
5x LPPCs = 15 tons, 25 damage, 25 heat, 10 crits
3x LLs = 15 tons, 24 damage, 24 heat, 6 crits
Definitely a crit advantage to the LL, however the LPPC has superior range and damage for the same weight tho minimum. So???
I am thinking of taking an old PXH-1 and stripping its LL, MGs and ammo then dropping a LPPC into each arm with an additional heat sink in the ammo location. Cruise and fire both at range or jump and fire one. _________________ The JadeDragon

I don't think the LPPC out right kills the LL. The LL maintains a nitch that is hard to match.
I think a LPPC instead of a LL on a PHawk or Wolfhound is doable. But you'd definitely need the MLs as backup for when you get close.
Now a TBolt could definitely use one as a long range snipe as it closes. With the classic heat issues, you'll rarely use it in close anyway. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I would agree, however, I think the LL's niche is smaller if not much smaller with the LPPC available.

Yes the Wolfhound would be a good candidate for LPPC. I was also thinking of the old Jenner, TRO 3025 states it was originally intended to have a LL instead of SRMs, be a sweat mod to trade the SRMs back out for say a LPPC and 2 more JJs. A couple of those with some Panthers for backup be a nasty light lance.
Blackjack also comes to mind or a Swayback with a bunch of SRMs and MLs.

I like that idea as well, the LPPC makes a very good secondary weapon on heavies as already demonstrated on your Marauder mod. On the TBolt swap the LL for LPPC and use the extra 2 tons to what, upgrade the SRM to a 6? _________________ The JadeDragon

Can LPPCs and HPPCs for that matter use a capacitor?
If 'Yes' is it a flat 5/5 damange/heat or is it off the base damage of the weapon? Like say 50% so add 3/3 for the Light and 8/8 for the Heavy? _________________ The JadeDragon

So you get a PPC that can only fire every other turn for only 4 tons and at least 5 heat every turn.
That is wicked. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
