Mordel.Net code release 2.13.0 takes a major step forward to how units can be designed as well as how game masters and players can decide on the units they wish to pick for scenarios and game. The below bullets detail this change further.
Enhancements
- A new field called Introduction Era has been added. This field is a pulldown and now captures all of the known Eras which are listed in the BattleTech universe as follows:
- Age of War
- Star League
- Early Succession Wars
- Late Succession Wars
- Clan Invasion
- Civil War
- Jihad
- Replublic
- Dark Age
- The field that was previously refereed to as Era has been reclassified as Introduction Year and its entry range is now restricted based on the Introduction Era selected. This year is enforced upon unit creation and cannot deviate outside of the acceptable range.
- When viewing the unit listing, the column which was previously present for Designer has been removed and new columns for Era and Year have been added in its place. Being able to see these fields as well as sort on them in the listing is likely to be far more useful. You can still filter by Designer if you wish.
- The ability download the unit listing results to a CSV (comma-separated values) file has been added. You will now see an Excel CSV icon in the top-right above the unit listing table. Clicking this icon will generate a CSV file containing all units available based on your current filter. This file also includes the following additional information for each unit (more fields will be added to this file over time):
- Chassis (Biped or Quad)
- Designer
- All units now have Availability and Rules Levels based on equipment availability (introduction, extinction, re-introduction dates) and technology advancement as published in official source books. To take advantage of this new information, a host if related updates have been made. The below list tries to capture these (though I'm sure I've forgotten a few):
- When designing a unit you now have an option for which approach you would like to use (Current, Era Specific or Year Specific). Selecting one will use the equipment availability and rules levels based on how it currently stands in the universe (Current), how it stood within a given era(Era Specific) or during a specific year (Year Specific). Each option will give you a little different flavor as equipment has shifted technology levels and availability. For example, selecting Year Specific may not give you a piece of equipment in 3057 that is available in 3058. That same equipment will be available using either year, however, if you were designing based on Era Specific.
- The rule levels applicable for your design based on all three approaches will be displayed during design, while viewing the submitted unit, and also on the generated PDF. These could be the same and they could be different. It is also possible based on your design approach that a rules level is Unavailable because equipment was not available given the era and years.
- A new tab during design and for viewing submitted units is available to help give you a breakdown of available and rules levels by year as well as era. The Availability tab shows you the rules level for a given Era as well as a breakdown within that Era. Each unit has an entry for every year from 2443 through 3144. This allows you to see if a given unit was even possible during a certain time.
- The following new equipment from Tactical Operations has been added:

As an addendum to this, after publishing the updates I realized my queries were pretty darned slow. They took about 5-7 seconds when viewing the listing or individual units. After tweaking a couple of the SQLs and adding a few indexes, those same queries now return in well under a second. YAY! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
