My custom Autocannon munition: HIBF
High Impact Blunt Force (HIBF) usually shortened to simply HI, is a specialist munition designed by a small mercenary company, but has since been picked up by other, larger armed forces.
Unlike traditional penetrator rounds like the SABOT and gauss slug, the HIBF munition is a flat head cylinder of high density material designed for initial high impact rather than extensive physical damage.
Game Rules
HIBF ammo is significantly heavier than conventional ammo, and is allocated per ton as follows.
AC2: 25 per ton
AC5: 10 per ton
AC10: 5 per ton
AC20: Not available in AC20 variant.
HIBF does not cause significant damage to high density armor, the round lacks any explosive charge and the shape makes it useless as a penetrator. However the round shatters upon impact, making it dangerous for a Battlemech's internal structure. Increasing the chances of scoring a critical hit on a location lacking armor. If the weapon destroys the remaining armor and damage passes over into the internal structure. Apply damage in the same fashion as a normal armor hit.
Armor Damage /Internal Damage (only on a clean hit)
AC2 1 /2
AC5 3 /5
AC10 6 /10
AC20 N/A /N/A
Due to the force of the round, all targets hit must make a pilot skill roll with a +1 modifier (Plus all other modifiers). Additional hits by HIBF rounds in a single turn are cumulative, meaning four hits will cause a +4 modifier! On a clean hit to the internal structure, two critical hit rolls will also be made. If an ammo slot containing HIBF is hit, no damage is applied (the rounds are inert) but shatter. The affected Mech must make 2 critical hit rolls in the location of the struck ammo. _________________ Constant exposure to dangers will breed contempt for them-Seneca

This is redundant given that armor-piercing rounds already exist within the canon.

its kind of the opposite of AP Rounds.
my feedback:
1) rounds still need propellent and so should do at least 1/2 damage on an ammo crit.
2) it is easiest to say that you get 1/2 the ammo per ton.
3) i would say rule that the rounds do 1/2 damage to armor (round up) and full to internal. again for ease.
4) why no ac/20? with the above changes, you can easily add an ac/20 option.
5) maybe i am biased do to AP rounds, but i would have ruled that these rounds force a PSR with a mod based upon size: ac/2 -1, ac/5 +0, ac/10 +1, and ac/20 +2. Each hit adds another PSR check.
6) double checks are good. you could have also added a +1 to the roll for ac/2 and 5 and a +2 to ac/10 and 20.
7) you might want to add a note that says use this ammunition's unreduced damage when determining threshold criticals on aerospace, conventional, and units with a BAR of 9 or less. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Thanks for the advice Vagabond. I appreciate the feedback, to be honest they are one of my favourite ideas, but didn't quite know how to balance them.
The only real reason for leaving out the AC20 is because i wanted something that would really buff the lighter ones (AC2 and AC5). I was contemplating making it only available to them. But there is no other reason _________________ Constant exposure to dangers will breed contempt for them-Seneca
