Well, most make it up based on the "bio" they've created for their persona..and when people make up ones that are far too high for their abilities we openly make fun of them.

I think it may be all determined by how much of a chatterbox you are. *looks around*
So there are people like SleepingDragon *points* that will go up in ranks every time someone blinks and people that just sit here and watch everyone be idiots that will stay at the same rank forever. Ah but its fun!

OOC:My rank I claim for my character is the one listed under my name.
Well, from what I hear the IS officers (That is the upper rank officers) are pampered and do little fighting. I would much rather be a ranker than an officer were I of the IS. Lucky for me Clanners always fight dispite rank.

Well, the rank doesn't matter, I may have the (virtual) rank of Sho-sho, but that doesn't change the fact that I'll always sit in my Dragon and probably will never command anything else than bunch of bureaucrats.

This is the fun I've had. I think my character here is an LTC, but the character he's based on never rose above the rank of Major (though he did, at one point, end up on the general staff and help lead an entire division from the number 4 spot).
I just stick with the ranks here since it reduces confusion.

I don't care how high up they promote me. I will always be out alongside the grunts, untill i can no longer ride in a cockpit.
Probably means I won't get that good-old pension, but I do not believe in leading from the rear.
