==Overview:==
After decades of failure after failure in regards to the original
Peregrine, Blackwell Industries, citing a massive drop-off in orders, was all
but ready to scrap the design. Few parties seemed interested in the design,
and even fewer were willing to shell out the money required to purchase one.
Just before the molds were to be destroyed, however, a number of engineers
decided to have a look at the machine. While doing so, they identified a third
major problem (in addition to the weak armor and the internal flywheel) that
had previously been overlooked - the machine was just too heavy for it to
efficiently move with any real speed. With this in mind, they began to
redesign the machine.


==Capabilities:==
A co-axial rotor system eliminated the need for the hazardous internal
flywheel. This, in turn, left a considerable amount of room for re-designing
the interior of the airframe. The end result of it was that the internals were
now not only easier to get into, but there was also now a few extra kilograms
left over for cargo.
As a part of this, the designers decided to go for a smaller engine.
Although the machine is still fast enough to keep up with most of the
transports that it will be escorting, it's just not quite as fast as the
original. The reduction in engine size, however, was sufficient to not only
allow for a redesign of the engine shielding (which removed all of the
previous safety problems), but it also provided sufficient tonnage for a
considerable amount of additional armor protection.
Not quite done, the designers completely redid the weapons load-out. The
SRM 4s were replaced with twin LRM 5 launchers, in the belief that the
launchers would enable the Peregrine to clear the landing zone from a
distance. The machine guns of the original were replaced with a chin-turret
mounted SRM 2 and an ER Small Laser; this was done just in case the LRM 5s
were insufficient to clear out the zone.

==Variants:==
For those wishing to have the SRMs back, the LRM 5 racks were designed to
be somewhat modular; trading the LRMs out for SRM 4s is estimated to take (at
most) six hours and a regular maintenance crew.

A variant that has been suggested is to remove the chin-mounted SRM 2 and
replace it with either an ER Medium Laser or a flamer; the extra ton from the
SRM ammo would go towards another ton of LRM ammo.

==Deployment==
Although the MK II is currently undergoing testing, it's considerably
cheaper price tag (about 500,000 C-Bills less) and improved design elements
have already resulted in a deluge of pre-orders.
