==Overview:==
The Hiraikotsu, named after a large type of boomerang, was commissioned by
the DCMS as a light, cheap, multi-role aerospace fighter.
At 40 tons, the unit fills the "light" portion of the role, but only
marginally. The speed is also average for a unit of its size, as is the fuel
capacity. Long range punch is given by a pair of LRM 5s mounted in the wings.
Short and medium range power is provided by twin SRM 2s and a pair of medium
lasers, one of which is mounted in the rear for use in dogfighting.
All in all, this version of the unit is considered unimpressive for its
size. However the DCMS, hurting for units, is believed to order these fighters
anyway.
Seen here is the 1A model, which is currently undergoing testing alongside
the original model. The LRM and SRM racks are removed for a pair of MRM 10s
and a pair of machine guns. This is unusual, as not only does the unit lose
range but MRMs are also notorious for being inaccurate. It is our belief that
it may be intended for the 1 and 1A to work together as a pair, with the 1
providing long-range support so that the 1A can close in order to use the MRMs
to best effect.
