Que?

By my math:
Base 5 + 0 his move + 4 your move = 9 at short range. 8's with the LBX if you get that close. He should be hitting you more often, preferably while parked in HW. I mean, even if you hang back, his erLL has got short prety much through your entire range envelope.

Peculiar. I was really expecting him to crush you like a bug. Sure, it'd take a while, but even though the Jenner F rules severely, it can only take so much punishment.

I've been confused by Casey moving myself...but Casey is one of (if not the) best players I know. I guess he's up to something.

Yer talking about the PXH-1 or the PXH-1D here?

Also, I think there's a number of level 2 Mechs that outclass it. (Wraith, Lightray 4W) Equal skills or BV equalized?

I love 3025 tech myself. Not too excited about the severe level and proliferation of all these news designs. I prefered the setting where Mechs were rare and lostech really mattered.

Still, I don't hate it neither. Most of those systems are pretty balanced, with a few exceptions. IMHO the only thing that is truly and utterly broken are the Clan pulse lasers, particularly the Medium and Large.

As for retiring Mechs, no way. Game wise there's no good reason to do that. There's nothing stopping you from fielding 20 Dutchboy Mechs even though it's fluff says that only 1 was made. Campaigns things get a bit different, but things should be guided by whats still in production, availability, and not much else. There's just no reason for any military to go, oh well, this old tech Whitworth kinda sucks, lets just trash them all.

Back in Terran Hegemony days this would happen sometimes, with the Houses getting SLDF hand-me-downs, but it's not that kind of universe anymore.

Its true that some mechs will and should go away if you are trying to be true to the fluff in your games.

The assassin for instance, the old fluff said there were what? A few hundred back before the star league fell? That was 3025, how many left by 3060? Yet is has all along remained a favorite and a frequent sight in level 1 games.

Then there's the Clint. Only 200 or so were made, many less still aroung by 3025 and several of those belong to Redjack Ryan with at least 2 more on Astrokhazy. How many left by 3067?

You could always find one in a cach I suppose. But if you try to go by the fluff, your unit is unlikely to have one, or to fight one even in 3025, much less in 3050 or later.

But hey, nobody said you couldn't make your own fluff.

Well, lets not forget that alot of Houses will go to extremes to keep mechs in service. I wouldnt be amazed if one House or unit canibalizes two or three mechs to keep a fourth one in working condition.
Failing that, theyl swap out weapons and ordinance to keep mechs running. Howabout pulling that wrecked AC 5 out of the Clint and replacing it with a large laser, or AC 2 or somesuch?
Yeah, battlefield attrition is going to cost you quite a bit, theres no way around that, but I think that if someone REELY wanted to keep a mech working, they could do it.
Wonder how much duckt tape that would take...

Doesn't matter to me.

There's limits to what can be salvaged; even duct tape can't fix the results of your average ammunition explosion. (for a small one though, cover the hole with duct tape, and give the 'mech five extra armor points in that location to represent the strength of duct tape)

Both the Clint and the Assassin are currently being manufactured at Defiance Industries of Furillo according to Handbook: House Steiner...

I cant remember what book it was in, but it had tables to determine lance and individual mechs. There were quite a few of the more 'common' mechs, such as the Stinger, and a few of the uncommon ones as well. The rare mechs, such as the GOL showed up ONCE in the assault table.
When it comes to 'pick and choose' battles, youre going to see a pretty eclectic mix of mechs. Mechs that arent around in great numbers or just dont go together due to availability or politics.
If I can find that table, Ill see if I can post it.

Handbood House Steiner is the newest one, post civil war, right? Does it say since when they have been manufactured? Going by the fluff from the 3025-3050 TRO they weren't then. And I think that would make it built since about 3060 or later unless the fluff in the handbook says earlier (or unless somebody forgot to read the old TRO fluff while writing the handbook fluff).

Well, it is a good way to keep the mechs alive and a good call if that's what the writers were thinking about when they wrote it.

Well, consider how much it costs to make a 3060 mech as compared to a 3025 mech. Some people might keep making them cause theyre dirt cheap and would thus appeal to starting merc companies, periphery nations and what ever pirate bands you can sell to without being caught.

Then why not cover a mech in duct tape? A new armor type, developed by the Periphery! Comes in grey, black, and camo!
