Safecon has to be granted by the defender in a trial. It cannot simply be "invoked." Clan defenders will generally grant Safecon as a courtesy, but if they're feeling outmatched they will generally try to knock out the Dropships before they hit planetside. I can't see the Snow Ravens offering Safecon very often, as it would totally neutralize any advantage they might have in air power.
For all of the Clan talk about honor, Clanners often act out of expediency in combat situations, and their fellow clanners generally do not hold it against them, with the exception of extreme conservatives.

I dont think that the clans would 'sacrifice' honor, like you said, Mud. If they pulled a pirate point\hot drop, then failed to take the objective, they would loose alot of face. On the other hand, if they used the same tactic, and won, well, the victors write the history books.
If your a clanner and succeed, the ends justify the means. If you fail, theyl string you up on the spot.

I didn't say it wouldn't work with regular pilots, but vetran or elite are the pnly ones to get results without BAD losses. By concentrating forces, I am talking maintaining lance sized units. The lances can then fight their way into company formations. I suspect a lot of the D-Day scattering, losses, and mysterious dissappearance was mainly due to defenseless cargo planes flying into flak batteries that could take out the Bombers of that era. A fireball of a cargo plane hitting the ground would leave very little evidence for the Graves Register units to use. (911 had a similar problem)

Solamha Work. Die in glory securing a LZ for the real troops. The Solamha troops would actually be really good for this, unless there is some point of honor/glory I am missing, with their experience.

The way I understand the Clans, the more daring/stupid the tactic, the more honor. Stuff like frontal assaults, etc.

It says phpBB when the last entry in the thread is a vote on the poll.

Bwahaaaaaaa,
BA and Drop pods, MarkIV shuttles, Helos, you name it, drives the PCs nuts. As head to head, no specific rules so it can get dicey. More than once I caused havoc and pandemonium with this........ but they learned and did it back to a vehicle battalion and command staff.
Beauty is in a city were they can get in buildings. Nothing like having PCs level buildings they are trying to defend.
Of course I love the Starship Troopers idea, load them in a cylinder, put them in a big gun, fire at the planet. That is how you hot drop BA.
AWAD- Of course you could have PCs that say they want to capture a small "rock" (asteroid) and propel it towards the planetary target
