Ok, I liked revolutions more than I liked reloaded. The matrix trilogy has deep, underline thoughts. Because of that, I think the meaning of the movies can get lost and people feel disappointed.

Revolutions could not end any other way.

The only way Neo could beat Smith was at the program level; of the inside out. He would have to submit to Smith giving his life to do so. Fighting Smith "physically" in the matrix was never going to work. We saw that back in Reloaded.

We can get into deep philosophical discussion but I don't have the time for that. There are those who say the Architect as feeding Neo a bunch of BS in order to manipulate him. And even if he wasn't, he did say something along the lines Neo arrived faster and stronger than the five before him.

The Architect represents the machines and the Oracle represents the freed humans. The agents are control programs to track down rogue programs in the matrix (which includes freed humans). So programs flee from the machine world to avoid deletion and they end up in the matrix.

Ok, my mind is racing with random and scattered thoughts on this. I will stop now.

Neo didn't defeat Smith. The Machines did. They used Neo as a conduit into Smith.....

I am not so sure about that.

What could the machines do? They only had access to Neo and his body and the one Smith that took him over.

At the end of Matrix, Neo defeats Smith by possessing Smith and destroying him from the inside. Just like what happened at the end of Revolutions.

The Oracle program manifests itself at the end as Smith repeats the line "every beginning has an end." That I believe is Neo's tip that host programs and people still have some control over Smith. That is when Neo submits to Smith's take over and then works from the inside to destroy all Smiths.

Its kinda sad that the Matrix series started as a sci-fi film with unique perspectives on reality and identity,

I agree! It would have been far cooler if at the end you were left wondering what's up again. They did that rather well in the second movie

the story didn't need the plot of the faithful newbie who saves the day.

That bothered me almost as much as the fact that those battlesuits didn't put a wee slab of armor over their pilots. You'd think they'd all get that one captain's treatment the first wave.

IMO they never should have had the invasion as part of the plot.

Well, it was an extremely cool battle sequence. Still, a 50/50 split would've been cool.

Lastly, some parts of the movie were not well though out. Apparently the robot's main strategy was to form themselves into tightly packed groups so they could be easily shot.

That bothered me to no end. And after forming such a pack, they'd slowly snake along the walls, to further facilitate their own destruction. Those packs should've been used to rush em instead. Which barely happened.
For a resource starved race of machines, they're not too smart. Maybe the matrix lacks the specs to control that many squiddies?

It was cool to see such a huge amount of squiddies in action though. I also enjoyed the creative use of them, IE, propping that drill thing up again.

If they wanted to kill the humans why didn't they just pop a nuke down into Zion,

Necessary plothole.
One could BS that they lacked the materials to make one, provided the earth ran out of the material when humans were around.

or at least some of the bombs used by the squiddies?

Another thing that annoyed me. If they had those, why dont they use them all the time?
I was also surprised to see gunners on those ships. If they have them, why didn't they use them in 1 and 2 when they EMPed like 5 squiddies?

Speaking of EMPs, why didn't they have a couple ready at the dock?
And how come that little hole in the roof didn't pour with EMPed squiddies for a couple of hours? It was like 10 seconds?

The special effects are good and it has some interesting parts. Agent Smith has come through as the most interesting of the characters, IMO, its just too bad Hugo wasn't allowed to do more with him.

Again, full agreement. It's hard to disagree with Smith.

I really could have done without the DBZ like action of that movie though. Making them fly was a dumb idea.
