Not really. Nothing in your post (except the In Death Ground connotation of "Cataphract") suggested an anti-fighter ship, at least not to me. But as that's exactly what Vagabond came up with, I thought I'd ask.
Anyways, here's the new RAC version.

==Overview:==
After Katherine Steiner-Davion's surrender to her brother, intelligence
analysts immediately descended upon Davion Palace so as to ensure that they
knew the full extent of her activities. Among other things, these analysts
found multiple references to a "Project Cataphract," a name ambiguous enough
to mean practically anything.
The breakthrough came when a known Katherine loyalist was arrested while
attempting to leave New Avalon. He was delivered by New Avalon authorities to
MIIO, and ... interrogated vigorously. From this interrogation, it was learned
that the man was a courier, tasked with carrying messages which Katherine did
not want intercepted by ComStar to their destinations aboard civilian
transports. They also learned the nature and location of "Project
Cataphract."
Project Cataphract was, as one analyst put it, "a conspiracy theorist's
dream." Authorized by Katherine in 3063, Project Cataphract was a successful
effort to secretly construct a shipyard complex in an uninhabited system, with
the intention of using the WarShips from this shipyard to turn the tide of the
Civil War. The captured courier made mention of setbacks which ultimately kept
the Cataphract yards from contributing to the war effort, but was rendered
incapable of elaborating by overzealous interrogation. The subject was
subsequently terminated, and the overzealous interrogater is facing inquiry.
An impromptu task force, including the FSS Simon Davion, two Aerospace
regiments, a regiment of Marines, and assorted DropShips and JumpShips, was
formed and dispatched to the uninhabited system in which the "Cataphract" yard
was located. Upon the task force's arrival, the defending loyalist aero wing
moved immediately to engage them. They surrendered just as quickly when they
discovered they were facing 6 to 1 odds.
The "Cataphract" facilities consisted of a large recharge station of an unkown
class and a few independent building slips. While a number of DropShips and
two Aero wings were left behind to oversee recovery of the surrendered
fighters, the Simon and the assault DropShips began their attempt to capture
the station. A company of Marines was diverted to capture the one WarShip near
completion (out of three), while the rest of the regiment began with the
station. Unfortunately, they did not move fast enough.
Before the Marines could secure the station's command center, the loyalist
commander detonated the thermonuclear self-destruct charges scattered
throughout the station and building slips. The single captured WarShip managed
to escape its building slip before this occured, but the other two were
destroyed, along with the station. Also lost were a Union Class DropShip, a
Leopard Class DropShip, thirteen Aerospace fighters, some 700 Marines, some
400 loyalist personnel, and some 1,200 civilian workers and dependents.
Faced with nothing but an empty star system, the task force charged its jump
drives, left the system, and reported the mission's results. The task force's
units were returned to more usual duties, and the lost Marine regiment
disbanded. The officer in charge of the company which captured the intact
WarShip will face a court-martial on New Avalon for executing the prisoners
captured along with the WarShip (some 70 workers and crew) after the station's
destruction.
For lack of a better name, the ship was designated the "Cataphract Class" and
sent to Galax, where her constuction was finished. A month later the
Cataphract, christened Belladonna, entered service.
==Capabilities:==
Apparently worked up under heavy time and resource constraints, the Cataphract
design seems to have at least one feature intended to annoy each FedSuns
admiral. It's slow, with a relatively short fuel endurance. Its weapons are
overwhelmingly ammunition dependant, and equipped with a short ammo supply. It
has a very small miscellanious cargo capacity. It has only two DropShip
docking collars. And, possibly worst of all, it has no fighters.
Nonetheless, the Federated Suns can't afford to just dismiss a WarShip,
especially after the losses of the Civil War. And it's generally agreed that
the Cataphract design has some advantages - heavy firepower and heavy armor
being foremost among them.
The Cataphract is armed primarily for anti-ship combat. Heavy naval autocannon
are mounted in the ship's nose and flanks, backed up by lighter NACs and heavy
naval lasers. For anti-fighter defense, the Cataphract carries a number of
heavy LBX autocannon and large lasers in each weapons arc. The strength of the
nose and broadside weapons arcs means that aft firepower necessarily suffers,
so the Cataphract mounts somewhat more of its armor aft than is usual.
While her construction was being completed, the Belladonna was refitted with
the new and more effective rotary autocannons in place of her LBXs. The
lighter weight of the RACs and a few creative modifications allow the RACs to
have a (barely) sufficient ammo load.
