Never an uncommon sight.
I know some people like 'em, but I think they're just too vulnerable. Two twenty-five ton 'mechs should be able to give a Phoenix Hawk a problem.

Commando was never liked for durability, which it doesn't have, but for a lot of SRMs launched at the enemy
So, if the Commandos are able to get near to PXH and the bigger 'Mech can't escape, than it's in trouble. But now, with a LL and PXH's mobility I must say that the Commandos must keep a low profile until they get in range.
I wonder why Stainer forces didn't use a Griffin instead of Shadowhawk.

I was thinking of making that change myself. I'm going to run it from the Steiner side before I do though.

Never got around to playing the Steiner side, but the Griffin made a huge difference for them.
Third round or so, its PPC rips one of my Locust's legs off. Next round, my other Locust skids right off the map and out of play. So at the beginning of the fourth round, I'm left with the Hermes II and the Phoenix Hawk.
Round 50 or so...the Phoenix Hawk gets done kicking the Firestarter, which is sitting at the bottom of a lake with both legs breached, to death. The Hermes II pilot is long since punched out and working his way to the edge of the board.
Along the way, the Hawk's had an arm blown off and has shut down twice. I think its average heat through the battle was somewhere around 12 or so...although I got it up over 20 more than once.

But the durability question is relatively easy to improve. Drop the SRM6 to SRM4. Average missile hits drop from 4 to 3. Max does drop from 6 to 4. But average this is a minimal loss. Add one ton of armor.
I did this for a few modified battles. Still had serious firepower but now could last 4 rounds instead of 2-3.
I really see the Commando as a Pursuit lance Mech. The guys that move in late in the battle. Or to hunt down vehicles. No jump and above average speed makes it a weak recon and the lack or armor take it out of front line fighter.
Look at this way. These bottom feeders come out after Steiner Assaults have brutalized someone but the enemy is retreating since they are usually faster. Speed and SRMs to take out the weak and wounded.
AWAD- Nothing like seeing a Marauder cower in fear of a Commando as the SRMS look for the holes

That's a decent modification proposal for the Commando.
For me to consider using a 'mech that light as a strike unit it either has to be able to jump out of trouble, or at least pull 8-12 ground speed.
Oh right...its Steiner...they don't really HAVE any "strike" 'mechs. Who needs them, when you can use a Thunderbolt for recon.

That's a lie! I use a Phoenix Hawk for recon! It's in that little lance over there with the Steiner Banshee and two Zeus.
Killing the opposition is just as good as knowing what they're doing anyway.

When you kill them, you know EXACTLY what they're doing. They're too busy being dead to cause you any trouble.
