I ran this scenario recently against a valiant opponent. I chose Davion of course deploying my Enforcers in a wedge formation with the Marauder in the center. He deployed his Capellan lance in diamond formation with the Cataphract at point, flanked by the Vindicators and the Catapult in the rear. we used two x two maps of open terrain with some small hills, a river and a few highways.

By the 3rd round the opening rounds began to fly with his Catapult and Vindicators being the only ones in range. He drew first blood with a PPC hit (on a 12 roll!) on one of my Enforcers. I new that I hard to close as soon as possible to negate the PPC advantage and get underneath his minimums. And he knew his ranges, so began a mech dance that ultimately ended with my closing the gap. A one point He moved his Catapult into optimum possible on a hill to rain down LRM fire on my mechs. I detached an Enforcer to chase him off.

By round 6 heat was becoming a factor for my Marauder and one of the Enforcers. He was handling his heat a lot better, except for Vindicator that was pushing 9+. All units had taken damage and my Marauder lost its A/C5 on round 5, being shattered by two separate hits. At this point I knew that could easily lose the match, especially when the only two times my Marauder turns on the pavement, HE FALLS! (damn those snake eyes).

At this point, I was able to exploit and tactical advantage and separated one of his Vindicators from his formation. With my other Enforcer hunting the Missile Boat (which was starting run low on ammo), I moved my Marauder into a heavy left formation. All units fired on the isolated Vindicator, destroying both the LRM5 and the PPC and a leg. He was able to get behind one of the Enforcers crippling two heat sinks. The next round saw me kick the Vindicator, caving in its chest and ending its life. During that same round I was finally able to get behind the Catapult after losing a large laser and taking serious damage. He had expended all of his LRM ammo and was now using the 4 med lasers. My opponent was also able to cripple my overheated Enforcer with -2 heat sinks. I was not able to keep it from shutting down, so by next run he blasted it into oblivion.

Standby for the conclusion.

Conclusion...

Some we were both down by a mech and some weaponry. (For those wondering the BV of each force, he outclassed me by 60+ points.) As his Catapult was now a laser boat he decided to close in on the Marauder with the Vindicator, hoping to eliminate the mech. I took a risk and ignored this threat and decide to use my last A/C10 rounds on his Cataphract. I also Alpha Striked my Marauder (minus the destroyed A/C5) on the same target. The die rolls smiled in my favor as the House Liao mech was hammered. Internals were exposed all over the mech and a large laser burn armor off its head. In response I took LA criticals on the shoulder of the Marauder and a gyro and Engine critical on one of the Enforcers. The Catapult suffered a destroyed leg when a well placed kick followed my last A\C10 hit.

The next round really ended the fight for him and the only shot I fired from a slow moving overheated Marauder was from a PPC. This washed over the Cataphract's already damaged head, destroying the location and killing the pilot. The return fire was absorbed by the Enforcers. Now he had a crippled Catapult and a Vindicator left. Both had lost their main armaments, so he tried to disengage with his sole mobile mech. I put two PPC hits through its back, detonating the remaining LRM ammo. The Catapult had to be kick and blasted to pieces before the game was over (he refused to give up, hoping to add one more of my heavily damaged mechs to the graveyard).

In the end, the Enforcers ability to absorb hit after hit and return respectable fire won the day. I have a new found respect for this mech. Additionally, the ammo limitations of the Catapult were quite evident in this match up. I was surprised by the Cataphract. It preformed beyond my expectations.

Hats off the my opponent as he played a good game.
