Pictures don't do the minis any justice...the Hellspawn is REALLY cool looking, even more so than the pictures. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

More players always welcome. I usually start up another game when the current one is down to a few players. But I always post it here first and give readers of the forums a first crack.

So I wish to make a suggestion for the next tourney to be played out here in the play by web forums... Here is my suggestion to you guys and Mordel. It is based off of an old design tourney I once had. If you read the rules I suggest below you will see that I am a BIG fan of Anti-"Boating Mech" rules... lol
THE RULES
The design rules to this contest will be done as follows.
Mordel will roll randomly 4d1000 to determine the Maximum Mech BV limit for next Tournament Battle. The number that is rolled will be the Maximum BV (Base BV un-modified for pilot skills) that the Base mech’s BV Must be equal to or below for entrance into the next tourney. So if, for example, he rolls the number 2000, then the maximum BV for this design contest will be a BV of 2000.
Rule Number:
1) No Mech can have a Base BV that is higher than the BV Limit that is rolled. There are no tonnage restrictions for this design completion, only a maximum BV limit and a minimum BV limit.
2) The minimum BV limit is 100 BV below the Maximum BV limit that is rolled randomly. So for example if the Maximum BV limit were 2000 then the minimum BV for the mech designed is 1900 BV.
3) Base Pilot skill is determined from the Base BV of the mech that is entered. If the mech entered meets all the rules above and below and is EXACTLY equal to the BV that was rolled for this design contest, then the Starting Pilot Skill for the mech is a 3/4 Pilot. If the mech entered is between 1 and 10 BV less than the maximum BV that was rolled for this design contest, then the Starting Pilot Skill for the mech is a 3/5 Pilot. If the mech entered is between 11 and 100 BV less than the maximum BV that was rolled for this design contest, then the Starting Pilot Skill for the mech is a 4/5 Pilot. So Essentially matching exactly the mechs Base BV to the BV rolled by Mordel will give the highest possible BV score for a mech entered in the next tourney.
4) The Tech Base of all mech designs for submission will be Tournament Legal, Inner Sphere mechs, that are made during the Clan Invasion Era, with any mech equipment allowed by SSW and Mordel, with a year restriction chosen by Mordel, placed in the Prod Year / Era checkbox.
5) Only Standard ammo will be allowed for this competition, NO alternate ammo types will be allowed in this competition or allowed to be used to alter a mechs base BV. This means no AP, no swarm, no inferno, etc. can be used in this competition to alter BV or otherwise.
6) The full tonnage of the mech must be used. No Fractional accounting of the mech will be allowed. Full points of armor must be used, to the maximum allowed by the mechs tonnage. In other words, Points of mech armor CANNOT be removed in order to reduce or tweek a mechs BV, or in other words, to lower the mechs base BV in order to try to exactly match the Maximum BV Limit that is rolled.
7) The Anti-Boating Rule: Since we wish to award creativity in this tourney, Rule Number 7 is the Anti-Boating Rule. The Anti-Boating rule is a rule made to penalize mechs designed around only one type of weapon. So, in this contest it is very bad to have a mech with 5 MPL’s or 10 LRM15’s, or 7 ML’s, etc. Assuming that all IS weapons that are TW legal are used on the mech submitted to this contest, the penalties for boating are substantial. If the mech designed and submitted for this competition has only one of each type of unique weapon then there are no penalties. So, for example, if the mech has one ERPPC, one PPC, one SRM4, one SRM2 one MG, and one Streak SRM4, then there are no other P/G penalties added onto the mech in the design contest. If say, the mech design has 2 Large Lasers, 2 PPC’s, 2 Med Lasers, one AC10, and one LBx10, then the mech has a 2 point penalty in P/G. A 2 point penalty in P/G means the Pilot will have to be 2 Points worse in his Piloting skill or 1 Point Worse in his Gunnery skill. A one point reduction in Gunnery is worth two points in Piloting. So for example, if the mech you designed for this contest is 4 BV below the Maximum Base BV of this contest and you are penalized 2 points in P/G for the weapons configuration you chose, then your base Pilot is a 3/5 pilot and you are given a 2 point penalty, incurred for the weapons configuration that you chose, then your Pilot for the contest could either be a 4/5 or a 3/7 Pilot. If your submitted mech design was exactly the Maximum Base BV allowed, a therefore a base 3/4 pilot, and had one AC20, one Large Laser, and 3 Small Lasers, then the weapons penalty in P/G would be 3 points. A 3 point Penalty in P/G could mean a Pilot that is one worse in Piloting and one worse in Gunnery, or 3 worse in Piloting, so your overall pilot skill could either be a 4/5 or a 3/7 pilot. So the more boating your mech is the more penalties it receives, with having 4 MPL’s (a 4 point penalty) causing either a two point penalty in Gunnery, or a one point in Gunnery and a two point in Piloting, or a 4 point penalty in piloting.

I think we'll better leave the rules we already have untouched _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Rules 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6 are all really just criteria for 'Mech selection, so isn't different than what I do now. It's a little more restrictive that what I may do, but isn't far fetched.
Rule 3 is messing with the skills, and I have a well defined formula for figuring that out that greatly rewards players for lighter, lower-tech. You'll notice a lot of the selections are mediums, because that's the real sweet-spot. It works. No need breaking what works well.
Rule 7, I'm not a fan of. I get what you're trying to achieve; a wider variety of weapons. I think while most games have been laser heavy, it tends to follow the nature of BT. I think adding more complex rules changes things in a way I don't want to do.
But ultimately, my games aren't just stand-alone games. I have a bigger plan on what I'm calling the Solaris Cup, which functions in the same way as the FedEx cup. Players compete for most points in a game, but are awarded points based on finishing position. They are then seeded and the top players make the playoffs!
Anyway, I appreciate the idea, and if I ever get around to writing code where games can be configured and run by others, you're more then welcome to run a game like this here!
