Since it matters this turn, just wanted folks to be aware that I'm changing one of my rules. There are no more declared charges or DFAs. Instead, they will behave similar to the way chihawk worked them in his old PBeM games. So you declare a hex. If someone is in it then there is an accidental Charge/DFA which acts just like a normal one, but is resolved during movement. You can then fire weapons as per normal during the weapons phase as well as perform physicals.
I think this works better than what I had, but let me know if there are any questions. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

That is the why I had asked you earlier. I like it this way better. Had you answered this way though, I would have jumped into Jymset's back a few moves ago! Ya Putz! _________________ "My Blood is not mine to give, it belongs to my Brothers"

If he's using my rules, 'mechs that don't move own the hex so if you claimed his hex he owns it and you end up one hex short. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

Just to clarify on your rule so I get it right.
* If no one is in a hex and two or more 'Mechs try to move into it, the whole accidental charge/DFA happens.
* If a 'Mech is already in that hex at the start of movement, and someone tries to move into it, then they simply end the turn 1 hex short and no charge/DFA occurs.
Is that right? _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

That's why this game is called "Preseason". I'm figuring things out on the fly. And we both know I'll make any rule or change any rule provided it's not in your best interest! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Yes, that is correct.
In the first case, the person with the lower initiative roll gets to the hex first, and the person with the higher roll arrives second and is the de facto attacker. It's possible by this rule that a third 'mech could be involved, and their move would be resolved after first accidental charge/DFA. It's also the only exception to the "you can't physical a 'mech performing a DFA" rule. Also, 'mechs do not fall from the accidental DFA/charge until all moves have been figured, allowing for multiple instances in the same hex against standing 'mechs. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

We have our first kills of the match!
PaWeasley died after taking a gyro hit during weapons attack and failing the piloting check. He then had the misfortune of falling on his back; which had already been stripped of armor, causing his fall damage to rip away whatever structure remained in his center torso.
Stinger07 died after being kicked by Vagabond. The kick struck the left torso, decimating the torso and the exposed XL engine which resided in it. Personally, I'm not sure how he lived this long!!!
Anyways, thank you both for playing, and I hope you had fun and will consider playing in subsequent games. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I wouldn't give the stationary mech the hex. I would say that if he is stationary, and someone tried to enter the hex, they are automatically the attacker.

Gonna be a tad tardy with the movement results this turn. I'm getting some clarifications from chihawk on the exact details of how his accidental DFA worked. If it works the way I think it does (resolved like a normal DFA, only in the movement phase), there's a certain 'Mech this turn who jumped that is NOT going to be overly happy about this whole sequence of events.
Unless they like failing the DFA, falling on their back, and then having their back exposed for the entirety of the weapons and physicals phase. Ugh! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

It also would've helped had I got the order of movement correct. The accidental DFA I had mapped out and marked damage for has suddenly become an accidental charge when I realized the worksheet wasn't sorted right. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

OK, after talking it through with chihawk, it's been sorted. Charges/DFAs are automatic, so take that into consideration when you move somewhere. Moving lower on the list and taking that HW hex might not really be what you want!
I'm also changing a rule for subsequent games. Starting with the next game, players can be pushed, charged and DFA'd off the map. My initial intent was that the field is like an arena with walls, but I really hated it!! So the rule will be changed so if you are displaced off the map, you are destroyed. This means that accidental charge from Daishi100 onto Chunga, if it happened in the next game, Chunga would be displaced off the map. It also means if you end next to a unit on the edge (facing the right direction), you can declare a push and push them off.
Moving first is bad, and this helps reflect that. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

"Charges/DFAs are automatic, so take that into consideration when you move somewhere."
I think it needs to be much more clear that you mean those types of attacks HIT automatically.
I've written and rewritten two WALL O TEXT posts already and deleted them. I think these are bad rulings that are prone to abuse. You've removed acceptable risk from players with low init rolls. Use the SIMULTANEOUS
MOVEMENT rules from Tac OPs, p215.
