the Vibroblades are honestly how I feel melee weapons in BT should have been handled. I understand that a melee weapons damage in RL is based upon the wielders strength (force of impact) as well as aim (critical spots) and the weapons design.
But a melee weapon doing shitty dmg while weighing a god awful amount was just not the way to go.
A Hatchet attack is basically equal in difficulty to a weapon attack in most cases (4/5 pilot; 4 base weapon attack, 5-1 base hatchet).
A Hatchet at its lightest (tourney legal) is 2 tons, 2 crit, 4 dmg. At heaviest, 7t, 7c, 20d.
A Sword at its lightest is 1t, 2c, 3d, and -1 to-hit. At heaviest, 5t, 7c, 11d, and -1 to-hit.
A medium laser is 1 ton, 1 crit, 5 dmg, and 3 hex range (short for +0 mod).
A small laser is 0.5t, 1 crit, 3 dmg, and 1 hex range.
A MPL is 2t, 1c, 6 dmg, and 4 hex or 2 for -2 to-hit.
A SPL is 1t, 1c, 3 dmg, and 2 hex or 1 hex for -2 to-hit.
Let us not forget, Kick is a free weapon at 4-20 dmg at -1 to-hit that forces a PSR.
Some will say, yes, a melee weapon is not as good as a ranged weapon. But its a free attack at no heat.
My answer: then kick.
A melee weapon really should be like any other weapon and be balanced around set tonnages/crits for a set damage. I mean, you need to be at range 1 to even use it. Huge backdraw.
Though, the best Vibroblade is the small. The medium is to close to the dmg of a large laser (same tonnage) and the large is bad dmg per ton when compared to other melee weapons. Damage is still to low, imho. I honestly do not see an issue with 3, 4, or even 5 dmg per ton plus 1/10 of mech tonnage. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Yep, exactly. At least the TSM has given the melee weapons some boost.
It should be also added that arm weapons can't be fired when you are making melee attack with melee weapons located there. Kick rarely has the same problem, but it rarely comes to play (aside from Crusaders and Vikings perhaps). _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

My personal opinion is that melee weapons were best left for the arenas of Solaris VII, where notoriety could be gained by how you fought a battle. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
