That is the stupidest use and need for a compact gyro I have seen yet!
Add 1.5t to the vehicle just so we can squeeze 2 IJJ in the CT rather them put them in the spacious side torsos. Move 1 of the RT DHS to an arm, walla... just saved 1.5 tons. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Agreed! The funny thing is, I didn't even think of that. When I input these things I'm more worried about getting the data in and less so about how practical the design is. In hindsight, some of these things are just stupid. According to the readout, this is the reason they went with the Compact:
Technical Readout: 3085 wrote: | This implementation was only successful after the engineers
replaced the gyro with a compact version, which enabled proper balancing of the jump jet array across the entirety of the Rook’s rear torso. |
Apparently they have a thing about symmetry as well! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

At least you can see now, why am I so annoyed by the new TROs. There are OBVIOUSLY stupid things in designs with alarming frequency _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

if they had say put a Compact Gyro and Compact Engine with the reason that the smaller components take less damage from enemy fire. Fine.
But just to make room for a IJJ. bah. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

So far i've put in a compact gyro only if i had plenty of tonnage but had to place lots of DHS.
A compact engine i didn't use anywhere to date. _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' An armored Compact Engine is great on an underwater mech. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Does it fare any better tonnage-wise than armoured standard engine? What about in performance? Is it really such a difference to be worth it? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

No, I was serious.

I have always felt that armored components should protect you from underwater hull breaches until you suffer a crit on the armored item.
fYI, I could not find an official ruling on this interaction. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I was wondering if that's what you were thinking. I would say that it doesn't matter if it's armored or not. A breached location floods and components don't work. At least that's how I would play it lacking any official ruling. Partly because of this wording on the same page:

nonfunctional. |
What you're referring to was probably written to address side torsos with XL (or XXL) engines. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator
