Your version is less loop holded and has more of purpose in mind, not just a replaying of the invading Germanic tribes into the crumbling Roman Empire as the original canon one seemed to be based on.
Wish they had done more with the invasion and not just picked a single offering of a three book main canon storyline and a three book spin off of said trilogy, they should have offered other points of view from the Clan side and done a lot more with the invasion time line and era. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Clanners thinking and worrying about logistics . . . I know that it strains the imagination because of canon. But seriously, the Khans of the Clans are NOT fools; they are all experienced and well-trained Warriors. NO historical General or Field Marshal could pay as little attention to logistics as the Clans of Stackpole . . . uh, I mean Kerensky . . . without losing the war. Even Genghis Khan was more concerned than some of the canon Khans with his supplies!
It is a small change, but one that I felt was needed in order to make the Clans more believable.
