SCORPION-class Troop Carrier
OVERVIEW
Unique to Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Scorpion-class DropShips were designed for use with the mixed Trinary formations employed by the Clan's Touman. Rather than make-do with the hodge-podge collection of Broadswords, Union-Cs, Sassanids, Carriers, and Overlord-Cs in use by other Clans, in 3017, the Scorpion Khans contracted with Clan Snow Raven to produce one hundred and twenty of these new troop carriers (five for each Cluster in their Touman). In the years since the introduction of this vessel, an additional fifty-three have been purchased, for a total in-service (at the Clan's height) of one hundred and seventy-three. (However, in the wake of the Scorpion Abjuration, only one hundred and nineteen confirmed vessels remain in existence.)
One advantage of the design was a streamlining of logistical and maintenance burdens in keeping these vessels operational. With common parts shared by all five of the sub-variants of this class, the Scorpion-series has made it easier for the Clan to retain its self-sufficiency. Although not a true 'Omni-DropShip' (as some overly enthused proponents of the design had christened the Scorpion when it first debuted), the ability gained by the Clan to focus available production facilities on only the spare parts and equipment required has made several other Clans sit up and pay closer attention. However, to date, no other Clan has attempted to field their own variations.
CAPABILITIES
Massing 6,600 tons, these military spheroid troop carriers were planned, constructed, and deployed in five separate (yet near-identical)variants. The vessel's dimensions, armor, armament, and core crew remain the same in all configurations; the only difference lies in the quantity and types of troops, cargo, and passengers embarked. Heavier than the standard Clan Union-C by 1,900 tons, the Scorpions can match the older DropShip in thrust (2-g's safe and 3-g's maximum) and features heightened armor protection.
Three hundred and thirty-two tons of fuel provide for constant operations of up to 180 days (although combat operations necessitate much more frequent resupply operations).
Each firing arc carries an identical arrangement of weapons capable of engaging targets at all ranges: an LRM-20 launcher with Artemis IV and a magazine of 30 missile salvoes, a Gauss Rifle with 32 rounds of fire, two Large Pulse Lasers, one ER PPC, two Streak SRM-6 launchers with a magazine of 30 missile salvoes, and five Medium Pulse Lasers (for a total of 6 LRM-20s, 6 Gauss Rifles, 12 Large Pulse Lasers, 6 ER PPCs, 12 Streak SRM-6s, and 30 Medium Pulse Lasers). One significant difference between older troop carriers and the Scorpion series is that the Scorpion has a robust heat exchange and power generation system that allows the DropShip crew to engage targets with every mounted weapon system simultaneously.
Crew consists of three officers and sixteen additional crewmen (twelve of whom serve as gunners!); contrary to conventional practices, the interior spaces are laid out to provide the technicians and warriors assigned to these vessels with staterooms and living quarters equal to steerage class passenger quarters (a distinct improvement over traditional bay personnel quarters--which are extremely spartan and limited in both space and utility). The Cluster Commander is an exception, being assigned larger quarters equal in space to the ones assigned to the ship's officers; although much of the extra space is consumed by an office for official (non-combat) duties and activities.
The Scorpion Mk I has the responsibility for carrying a Command Trinary (Cluster or Galaxy) into battle (12 OmniMechs, 10 Elementals, and 2 OmniFighters). In addition to these Warriors, the Mk I includes a 50-ton Cluster Command Center with 25 former Warriors, Scientists, Merchants, and Technicians assigned to coordinate all of the CCCIL (Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, and Logistics) Operations in support of the Cluster (or Galaxy). Steerage quarters are available for up to thirty-six passengers.
108 tons of supplies provide rations, water, and life-support for up to 120 personnel for 180 days (this is standard on all variants except the Mk IV which carries 54 tons but has reduced personnel; retaining a 180 days supply), while a total cargo capacity of 663 tons allows ample storage of spare parts, fuel, and munitions for most operations.
The Mk II Scorpion is assigned an Assault Trinary consisting of 10 OmniMechs and 25 Elementals. Each Mk II also features quarters for 51 passenges and cargo space for up to 1,288 tons of parts and munitions.
The Scorpion Mk III carries a Battle Trinary of 5 OmniMechs, 25 Elementals, and 10 OmniFighters. There is sufficient space for 41 passengers and 538 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mk IV is assigned a Striker Trinary of 10 OmniMechs and 10 OmniFighters, with space for just 1 passenger and a mere 262 tons of cargo.
Finally, the Scorpion Mk V is assigned only to the Reserve Artillery Trinary that forms part of the Galaxy Command Keshiks (as well as the Keshiks of the saKhan and Loremaster). Consisting of 15 Artillery-armed OmniMechs, these vessels have space for 71 passengers and 588 tons of cargo. While some within the Clan consider the Mk V as unnecessary (since ample Union-Cs were available) the desire to consolidate the Touman to a single hull-type won over the objectors after just two Trials of Grievance. It did not hurt that just nine Mark Vs were constructed.
DEPLOYMENT
Each Goliath Scorpion Cluster is assigned five Scorpions: one Mark I for the Command Trinary, two Mark IIs for the Assault Trinarys, one Mark III for their Battle Trinary, and one Mark IV for the Striker Trinary.
Each Galaxy Command Keshik (and the Keshiks of the saKhan and Loremaster) consists of one Command Trinary (with its Mark I Scorpion) and a Reserve Artillery Trinary assigned to a Scorpion Mark V.

DEATH DANCER-class Assault DropShip
==Overview==
Beginning in 3030, the Khans of Clan Goliath Scorpion decided to design and manufacture a new Assault DropShip; this new design (designated as the Death Dancer) would replace former SLDF Achilles, Avenger, and Pentagon-class DropShips in the Scorpion Touman. Although it took a full decade to finish the blue-prints and schematics (plus another seven years to complete the first prototype), the performance of the new DropShip so impressed the Khans that they authorized full-scale production.
==Capabilities==
The Death Dancer is the standard assault DropShip of Clan Goliath Scorpion. This lethal aerodyne vessel combines armor, acceleration, maneuverability, and firepower to make a truly spectacular vessel.
Safe thrust is 4.5-g's, while the maximum sustained thrust is an incredible 7-g's. This DropShip features a heavily reinforced internal structure and ninety tons of ferro-aluminum armor--giving it nearly as much resistance to damage as a Clan Congress class frigate!
The nose arc concentrates much of the designs firepower, with four ER Large Lasers, three LRM-15 launchers with Artemis V FCS (40 triple salvoes), a gauss rifle (40 shots), two Streak SRM-4s (50 combined salvoes), five ER Medium Lasers, and five ER Small Lasers.
The other five arcs are slightly less well armed and are indentical to each other, having the following: two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers iwth Artemis IV FCS (40 double salvoes), a gauss rifle (40 shots), two Streak SRM-4s (50 combined salvoes), three ER Medium Lasers, and three ER Small Lasers.
The Death Dancer mounts enough double heats to fire the nose arc and four of the five remaining arcs simultaneously. Crew consists of three officers, two
crewmen, and fifteen gunners with life support, supplies, and provisions for ninety days. Fuel stores are also rated at 90 1-g burn days, although hard
maneuvering will quickly eat through those stores. Ninety tons of spare parts are carried, along with a small cargo bay able to hold another 57 tons of miscellaneous cargo.
==Deployment==
With one Death Dancer assigned to every Goliath Scorpion Cluster and additional vessels assigned to WarShips of the Touman, Clan Goliath Scorpion is assured of having the close-support that their troop carriers and WarShips require.
Originally exclusive to Clan Goliath Scorpion, the design has since spread to other Clans of Kerensky, most notably Clans Diamond Shark and Star Adder who have acquired production rights for the design. It can also be found in the Wolf and Coyote Toumans, but remains relatively rare amongst the other Clans.

why does the base variant have 12 mechs and only 2 BA?
I would figure that 10/10/2 would be the base. 10 mech, 10 ba, and 2 fighters.
Also, your cargo levels seem contrary to Clan standards. If I recall, the Clans offer 25 or 50 tons of cargo per Mech and Fighter and 5 tons of cargo per BA point. Standard trials need only enough munitions and armor for the duel. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

The Mark I has a Command Trinary, which has a mixed Command Star of 2 BattleMechs (2 points), 10 Elementals (2 points), and 2 ASF (1 point), supported by two BattleMech Stars of 5 BattleMechs each. True enough. But I am of the opinion that canon cargo space (in DropShips at least, WarShips being a whole 'nother story!) is too tight, both IS and Clans. You've got to have room for munitions, spare parts, entire Omni-pods for reconfiguring OmniMechs on the fly, fuel for ASF, external ordnance for ASF, etc., etc., etc.
But then again, trying to use real-world logistics in BattleTech is just asking for a headache. But I did want to at least try and make a semi-realistic amount of cargo space part of the design.

I was unclear... 10 BA points! Otherwise a Super Nova with an Aero point attached.
Your Trinary is very unconventional in the Clans. I think it would be a mixed trinary of 2 Mech Stars, 1 Nova, and an aero point. 15 mechs, 25 ba, and 2 aero.
Even then i'd question the aero as memory recalls Clan bidding working in stars. So you'd need 10 aero, but honestly 2 is perfectly fine.
I do question though why the Clans used an Aero point of 2 fighters. An aero star should be at best 5 fighters. Meaning an aero binary is 10 fighters which is 4 more than an IS aero company. Would work as 2 per star for 4 and 6 for a binary and trinary. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I would agree wholesale for the IS. However, not for the Clans.
50 tons of cargo per Mech allows for a full armor refit, 1 to 2 reloads (assuming 5t of ammo), and some replacement equipment. As for the pods, I may be wrong but most omnis are configured at their base world for the target world. Rarely are full pod sets carried for a strike. Even then though, the above allows for 20t of equipment which is most omnis up to 75 tons.
I will agree on the aero to an extent. For the IS, i use 150 tons for each aero. 50 reload/repair and 100 fuel/externals. Most fuels gonna be burned on patrols that use no repairs or reloads. And i usually add this cargo space to the aero bay so its clear what its for but that's a style choice. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

It probably would be more efficient (one base model versus five variant models-on-a-theme), but the tonnage would have to increase to 9,800 tons and it would cost a bit more (roughly 41 million, give or take). Showing here:

That is with 50 tons of cargo per ASF/BattleMech and 5 tons per Elemental point. If you move the 30 tons extra cargo to spare parts, you have 1.9% (~) tonnage dedicated to parts, whereas the originals had 2.5%. So, it probably needs to go to 9,900 tons . . . but we are already 100 tons over the IS Overlord and not THAT far off from the Overlord-C (11,550 tons) that carries three full BattleMech Trinary.
I figured that 6,600 tons was already pushing it (larger than an IS Fortress!) for what is (basically) a company-level transport vessel (i.e., one Trinary). Especially with the Union-C coming in at just 4,700 tons.

Yah. You basically carrying a battalions worth of weight for a company analog. its that 10 aero. 50 BA is not to bad, but still weighty.

Yeah, that is one of the reasons that I decided to create the Scorpion-class . . . the odd mixed Trinary structure of Clan Goliath Scorpion.
A couple of years back, I asked over on CBT just how the devil did the Scorpions expect to transport their Clusters?
The answer? With DropShips.
Seriously, look at the canon Scorp Clusters:
Hussar: 42 BattleMechs, 60 Elementals, 42 Aerospace Fighters. Requires 1 Overlord-C, 1 Sassanid, 2 Clan-refit Titan.
Uhlan: 42 BattleMechs, 60 Elementals, 42 Aerospace Fighters. Requires 1 Overlord-C, 1 Sassanid, 2 Clan-refit Titan.
Dragoon: 37 BattleMechs, 110 Elementals, 32 Aerospace Fighters. Requires 1 Overlord-C, 2 Sassanid, 2 Clan-refit Titan.
Cuirassier: 42 BattleMechs, 110 Elementals, 22 Aerospace Fighters. Requires 1 Overlord-C, 2 Sassanid, 1 Clan-refit Titan.
Grenadier: 37 BattleMechs, 185 Elementals, 2 Aerospace Fighters. Requires 1 Overlord-C, 3 Sassanid, 1 Carrier.

That is with using the Overlord-C and Clan-refit Titan almost exclusively (with just 2 ASF, I couldn't justify using a Clan-refit Titan for Grenadier Clusters) . . . and we know (from published products) that the Clans seem to prefer using smaller Dropships for the bulk (not all, to be sure) of their forces.
And that is not even considering that the Trinary formations are broken up and embarked on different ships! That is a recipe for disaster waiting to happen!
Personally, I prefer Trinary-scale Troop Carriers, simply because Trinarys are the unit of choice for Clans to bid with. Sure, they may go down to the Star level, but I imagine that Trinarys are the meat and potatoes of intra-Clan bidding for most Trials.
All that led to the creation of the Scorpion-class. I've streamlined the Goliath Scorpion Touman somewhat, giving every Cluster a Command Trinary (Mk I), two Assault Trinary (Mk II), a Battle Trinary (Mk III), and a Striker Trinary (Mk IV) (for a total of 47 BattleMechs, 85 Elementals, and 22 Aerospace Fighters), eliminating the Guard and Specialist Trinary.
Why? Because they make little sense to me. 50 Elementals and 5 OmniMechs? Slow as molasses since only 5 Elementals can ride a single Omni at one time. 50 Elementals and 10 ASF? If you need Airborne Elemental Infantry, use a freaking small craft; because once again, when on the ground, the Elementals move at glacial pace.
Five Dropships per Cluster . . . all with the same engines, same electronics, same weapons, same controls, same crew requirements, etc., etc., etc. The logistical chain is vastly simplified, each Cluster has the ability to bid Trinary formations, and the Cluster doesn't put all of its 'Mechs in one basket. AND, we can use a single Clan Star Lord (or its equivalent) for interstellar transport.
Anyway, that is my thoughts.
