==Overview:==
While it may appear tha the arms race which has begun in the wake of the
Jihad's failure is due to the various factions gearing up for another round of
war, the truth of the matter is that it represents most of the Inner Sphere
taking a page from the AFNN and trying to use technology in order to mask
deficiencies in their numbers and/or readiness levels. After all, if one mech
can boast the firepower of two, then that one mech can be slotted in place of
two mechs on a temporary basis.
It was in this vein that the Wolf's Dragoons found themselves reconsidering
the Peregrine. On one hand, even "failed" designs like the Peregrine were now
in demand as militias across the galaxy tried to buy what mechs and vehicles
they could afford. On the other hand, those militias who could do so were
holding out for machines with the ability to do double-duty. It was in this
vein that, with the help of AFNN engineers, the Peregrine was redesigned.
==Capabilities:==
By installing an XL engine and mounting a traditional tail in lieu of the
dangerous internal flywheel, the MK II boasts more free tonnage and internal
room than the original. This tonnage and space was put to use adding four and
a half tons of ferro-fibrous armor and a bay for infanry, a decision inspired
by the Pinto. This means that the MK II is now a heavily-armed combat
transport.
But while the SRM 4s and machine guns themselves would be sufficient to clear
a landing zone, the designers went one step further. With lasers in place of
the machine guns and LRMs in place of the SRMs, the MK II can actually
function as an assault aircraft, targeting vehicles and battle armor as the
crew encounter them on the way to or from the landing zone.
The trade-off, however, is that since the MK II is essentially two aircraft in
one, the loss of a MK II is akin to losing two separate aircraft. Commanders
should be aware of this.
