BattleTech Vehicle Technical Readout
VALIDATED

Communications System: Various
Targeting & Tracking System: Various
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
==Overview:==
In the wake of the Jihad and the galactic effort to push the group back as
far
as possible, Quikscell soon saw a major surge in sales as cash-strapped
militaries bought whatever they could cheaply obtain in order to plug holes
in
their ranks. As a result, company officials moved swiftly in order to try a
find gaps in their product offerings so as to maximize sales while they sti
had the chance. After noting that they lacked a proper urban combat vehicle
they made a Mahnattan Project out of creating the Vigilence.
==Capabilities:==
Although an odd duck at 19 tons (as compared to 20), Quickscell rationalize
this by noting that many bridges and overpasses capable of handling mechs h
been destroyed during the fighting in order to prevent reinforcements from
moving through, leaving a mere handful of lighter bridges left.
Either way, the Vigilence packs a fair amount of armor and firepower into i
small frame. Its twin SRM launchers give it good punch against battle armor
and combat vehicles, and the decision to have a 2 in support of the 4 permi
the use of the devastatingly effective Inferno munitions. Backing this up i
a
pair of machine guns that can be used to deal with infantry, and there is
space inside for a handful of soldiers or police tactical officers.
The vehicle is also protected by a full four tons of armor, meaning that th
machine can take an AC/20 round to the front and still limp back to the
repair
bay.
==Variants:==
As the SRM 4 and the LRM 5 are the same tonnage, some militia units have
taken
to replacing the 4 with the 5 in order to create a cheap fire-support
vehicle.
==Deployment==
Suffice to say that, owing to the Vigilence's assorted abilities, it has be
quite a strong seller all across the Inner Sphere.

Why two different size launchers and not three same size? That way you could share all ammo by all launch tubes. The rule about infernos being limited to SRM-2 doesn't apply since Battletech Master Rules came out, which was rather long ago. If you want even more versatile design, then just ditch both this configuration and it's variant too and install two MML-3s, that can fire pretty much any ammo you can find for IS missiles... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I was going entirely Level 1 with this particular design, and so was limiting myself to the old-school weapons systems. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." Heh, I can see that, but still SRM-2s would be better IMO. MMLs are fairly low tech themselves though. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Trailer hitches are now a Quirk in SO P.196 and are considered an advanced rule. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Which along with some other things makes no sense seeing how common trailer hitches are on many military vehicles to include tanks and other tracked vehicles but hey why let that get in the way of rule making...kind of like their asinine rules about pintel mounts...
And Levels are gone from the game as well... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Your near constant complaint about game rules aside, how does making trailer hitches a quirk (no weight and can be added to any tracked/wheeled vehicle) make no sense? I would say it makes more sense than making it a 1/2 or 1 ton item as it implies that nearly ALL such vehicles are pre-designed with this equipment (likely part of the 10% structure). And its only an advanced rule because as a feature it serves to only complicate the minimal amount of rules need to play the majority of simple games.
So it would appear to me that moving it to a quirk moves it more towards the point of your complaint and not away from it as your post implies. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

And yes, Levels as we knew them have been replaced.
We now have a multi-teir system in place:
Introductory
Tournament Legal
Advanced
Experimental
Introductory: effectively the old level 1 with a few additions.
Tournament Legal: the mass majority of the rules needed to play most battletech games. Lacks the strategic elements such as artillery and world conditions.
Advanced: the majority of the rules that advance the game beyond skirmishes and one shots into campaigns. Also the majority of rules that attempt to handle more realistic features of otherwise simplified processes.
Experimental: the rules that predominantly covers equipment that is as of yet prototypes or experimental. Includes some rule elements but usually does so in relation to a piece of equipment.
So these days, when you setup a game you usually do so on these three factors:
Rules Level - Introductory, Tournament Legal, Advanced, or Experimental.
Game Era - 2750, 3025, 3039, 3050, 3060, 3085, or 3145.
Tech Level - A through F with F being the most advanced.
Tech Level can be optional.
Reason you declare Rules and Era is because equipment moves categories based upon the era of play. I do not know of anything that moves from advanced or higher into Tournament Legal, but I mention it here just encase. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

A half ton trailer hitch? Wow...okay...very FASA like there. I could see a couple of pounds IF that. Tons on a vehicle like a tank? Yeah...about that...no.
Quirk means oddity or something not right, look it up, so tell us Vagabond how having a trailer hitch, something that give the vehicle a chance to do more like oh say pull a trailer or a field gun or artillery piece or worse case another vehicle, a quirk? _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Really? I will stick to you want to field those mechs and your total tonnage is what? Okay here is my force, lets play. Simple easy and everyone has what they like and enjoy and all are happy. Works well for me and funny thing when we have cared enough to add up the BV things work out to be very close like maybe 70 points difference and so I think I will stick to what my group of friends has been doing for years as far as our games go. If the limits of era and tech work for you then enjoy. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

1. This comment was not directed at you but informing Kraken of the change.
2. Do what ever you like. If your not running an official tournament then use what ever setup is best for you. I could care less.
3. If you do run an official tournament then do whatever you want that is not in direct violation of the written rules.
4. Relax man. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
