After looking over the F-14 and its discussion, I decided to make this. Its main purpose is to carry as many LAAMs as possible on a conventional body and engage any fighters. I decided to use the same trick as my F-14 suggestion of an LAC/5 w/ Flak and TC for a -3 to-hit as a back up weapon. The Angle protects it from a lot of nasty weapons. And the chaff pods are used to evade enemy attacks and missiles. I selected Laser Reflective as its main enemy is likely Aeros and if the fighter ever suffers a physical impact (reflective armor's weakness) its destroyed anyway. Yes, its slow with the missile load, but my experiences with aero shows that 3 to 5 mp will pass in most dog fights when you have a wing man. Last, I chose a turbine over a fusion for cost and fuel efficiency. The recon camera was added to allow the unit when configured for ground attack mode (suggest ap rounds or precision) to spot for indirect LRM and artillery. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Wouldn't AMSs do the same trick and save you some tonnage for payload or speed? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Yes, I it would save about 1.5t for the AMS effect but the chaff also has the smoke and ecm effect as well (+1 to-hit mod). Mostly, it was chosen for its look to modern day fighter craft.
and other than MGs or SLs, 1.5t just doesn't offer all that much. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

ATM, the only extra ordinance you can add is bombs, and only if your group allows you to use quirks. you need a cargo bay and the internal bomb bay quirk from StratOps. And its expressly worded as bombs so you can only employ bombs. Kinda lessens the air-to-air focus.
though you can easily swap out the chaff for a nose and aft mounted AMS with 2t ammo. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

LAAs are listed as bomb ammunition. I don't think that it would be a problem to use them this way. F-22 also carries it's missiles internally after all. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

LAAMs are listed as external munitions not bombs. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Where? Tac Ops have them under bomb munitions on p. 357-360. Construction rules only mention that they take up 1 slot when mounted on external hardpoint, but there's nothing written there that would prevent them from being mounted in any other way. All bombs have a line about the amount of pods they take on external points. Tables on p. 414-415 also list them all under bombs with 0.5 ton weight. There is no external ammunition category as far as I know. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

you are correct. they are listed as bombs. however, an official ruling seemed to imply not AAMs in a bomb bay. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.
