My way of seeing just how fast I could get an Inner Sphere light mech and still have it be combat-effective. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." It is a nice mech, a decent punch (for a light mech) and very fast. VERY fast. Needs some jump capacity though. _________________

I toyed with the idea of doing jets, but even at a mere half ton per jet I'd be forced to give up *something*; it's as finely balanced as I can get it, and so I didn't want to risk making any sorts of trade-offs. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." I can understand that, but since you don't get any higher numbers after moving 10 hexes. How about lowering the walk to a 10.
I toyed around with it and come up with this

There are two advantages for high MP ratings actually. First you can travel winding path (okay, jets can take you to the other end) without heat and through terrain. Second one is called advanced movement modifiers, or something like that. With those you keep getting better modifiers beyond 10 hexes (well, that one's optional, but I can see the Helions using them anyway ). _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

AAHHHH, the plot thickens, I vaguely remember that advance chart. Not too many people play with it though.
But I do see your point. _________________

Yeah, it's just optional, but for 'mech like this it' worth it probably. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Isn't the expanded movement chart standard now? _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

I thought I saw it in Tactical Operations, which means not Tournament legal, so optional mostly, or am I mistaken? _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Fluff:
==Overview==
If the first phase of the Jihad could be described on one phrase, it would be "mutual Pyrrhic victory". On one hand, the Word of Blake successfully captured over 90% of the Inner Sphere and all of the major Periphery nations save for the Outworlds Alliance. On the other hand, they failed to capture several key worlds, including Caph, Solaris VII, and Northwind... all planets from which retaliatory strikes would come, including the AFNN-led strike that liberated Terra from Blakist control.
But while the New Terran Hegemony had won a critical victory against the Word of Blake, forcing them to retreat to Sirius and rely on low-tech machines like the SHD-2B Shadow Hawk to replace their losses, they were forced to confront a stark reality of their own: while the New Terran Hegemony had factories aplenty, they had few trained soldiers who could properly operate what those factories produced.
In response to the demand, designers on Northwind - working with their AFNN counterparts - set about designing a new high-speed scout that could operate behind enemy lines for extended periods without needing any sort of escort, thereby freeing up light combat units for other duties. The end result of their efforts was the Starflash, a mech more than capable of outrunning anything that it couldn't otherwise outgun.
==Battle History==
While individual Starflash mechs saw action on Quentin helping to flush out fleeing Blakist units, the turning point in the mech's history was Styx. Six Starflash mechs were unleashed on the planet, their pilots given a simple order: "Take out what you can, and squeal on what you can't."
Thanks to the speed of the mech, the pilots were able to launch countless hit-and-fade operations on the planet. With a top speed greater than that of even some aircraft, the Starflash pilots were easily able to intercept and neutralize any cargo or messenger vehicle that wasn't suitably protected... and even a few that otherwise were. In this fashion, the Blakist forces on the planet soon lost the ability to communicate or send supplies & reinforcements by ground or air, giving the partisans and those NTH forces on the planet a key advantage. Within two months of the NTH forces first making planet-fall, the Blakist resistance was a resistance in name only. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat."
