==Overview:==
The Death Dancer is the standard Clan Assault DropShip. Orignally designed by
Clan Goliath Scorpion, this formidable and highly capable vessel has been
adopted by all of the Clans of Kerensky who use it as a WarShip escort and to
lead aerospace fighter assaults. The debut of this craft in the mid 3030's
took Assault DropShip design to a dizzying new plateau, in terms of
acceleration, armor protection, and sheer firepower.
==Capabilities:==
On a 3,300 ton aerodyne frame, the Death Dancer has proven itself capable of
accelerating at a safe thrust of 4.5-g's and a maximum emergency thrust of a
truely incredible 7-g's. Fifty-six tons of ferro-aluminum armor plating are
carried, giving the lithe little ship more armor protection than a Vincent
class corvette!
The forward wings, stern wings, and aft of the Death Dancer mount an identical
array of weapons: two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-10 launchers with Artemis IV
(60 shots), a Gauss Rifle (32 shots), three ER Medium Lasers, and two Streak
SRM-4 launchers (25 shots). These bays are formidable in and among
themselves, but it is the nose arc that is truely a major threat. Six ER
Large Lasers, four LRM-20 launchers with Artemis IV (120 shots), four Gauss
Rifles (120 shots), eight ER Medium Lasers, and five Streak SRM-6 launchers
(75 shots) give this Assault Ship firepower worthy of its title.
Two hundred and fifteen double-strength heat sinks are fitted to the Death
Dancer, allowing for the full use of all weapon systems. Crew consists of
eighteen personnel with the capacity for two passengers; fuel, provisions, and
life support are rated at 180 standard days under optimum conditions.
==Deployment==
Produced by the Adders, Cats, Cobras, Scorpions, Sharks, Ravens, and Vipers,
the Death Dancer can be found in the toumens of every Clan. These vessels act
as escorts for WarShips and also undertake missions where the use of a major
WarShip is not warranted.

I will be posting the Clan DropShips here, followed by their WarShips. In addition to redoing (reimagining) the 'Mechs and Aerospace assets, I have also created what I call the 'Clan Common WarShip Program' that was intended to replace all of the different Star League era WarShips with modern vessels that shared systems to ease the logistical burden. I do hope that you enjoy them.

==Overview:==
The Scorpion class DropShips were constructed as part of the Clan Common
WarShip program. During the first years of Nicolas Kerensky's rule as IlKhan,
he set about remaking the Clans in his own vision. Part of that vision was to
provide a common set of transport vessels to replace the battle-fatigued
DropShips of the SLDF.
The Scorpion (named after the artillery piece, not the Clan) was the design
finally chosen. Using this common hull, sharing identical weapons, crews, and
parts, the Clans have been able to concentrate on other areas of technological
development. Over the centuries, the design has evolved and now consists of
no fewer than eleven seperate models, each dedicated to carrying a specific
Trinary Formation.
==Capabilities:==
The Scorpion masses 6,600 tons and is designed as a spheroid DropShip to
maximize internal space. Its four powerful engines generate a higher level of
thrust than Star League troop carriers, allowing for a safe acceleration of
2-g's and a maximum emergency thrust of 3-g's. Forty-six tons of
ferro-aluminum armor plating provides substantial protection to the crew and
the troops being carried aboard.
Each Scorpion is armed with a battery of 4 ER PPCs and 5 ER Medium Lasers in
the nose. The remaining five arcs contain a lighter array of 5 ER Medium
Lasers and 7 ER Small Lasers. In addition, the Scorpion carries a total of
four Arrow IV artillery rocket launchers, posistioned two each in the right
and left sides. Although useless in flight, once the Scorpion has grounded,
these launchers allow the DropShip to provide artillery fire support to units
operating within the Arrow IV engagement range. Due to the curvature of the
hull, only two of these launchers can fire on a single target coordinate. A
total of sixty Arrow IV munitions are stored in the onboard magazines.
Crew consists of three officers, two crewmen, and thirteen gunners, in addition
to a variable number of passengers and bay persoonel depending on the exact
model. Each Scorpion features either 30 or 20 escape pods, sufficient to
evacuate the entire complement. Fuel, food, water, and life support are
sufficient for up to 180 days of normal operations--although combat will burn
through these supplies faster.
==Variants:==
The Scorpion Mod 0 carries a BattleMech Trinary. This vessel can accomodate
up to 132 passengers, carries 30 escape pods, can store up to 465 tons of
cargo in its lower hold.
The Scorpion Mod 1 carries a Trinary comprised of two BattleMech Stars and a
Nova consisting of five BattleMechs and 25 Elementals. There is space for 102
passengers, 30 escape pods, and 415 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 2 carries a reinforced Supernova with fifteen BattleMechs and
seventy-five Elementals. 42 passengers can be embarked, there are 30 escape
pods, and space for 315 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 3 is used exclusively by Clan Goliath Scorpion Command
Trinary formations. This model carries twelve BattleMechs, ten Elementals,
and two Aerospace Fighters. In addition, there is a 300-ton Tactical
Operations Center manned by a staff of thirty Warriors (former warriors, at
least), Scientists, Technications, and Merchants who provide the Cluster with
a communications hub, meterological warnings, intelligence analysis, and
satellite imagery. There is space for 92 passengers with 30 escape pods, and
room for 295 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 4 houses ten BattleMechs and twenty-five Elementals, along
with 112 passengers, 30 escape pods, and 1,165 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 5 can carry five BattleMechs, twenty-five Elementals, and ten
Aerospace fighters, in addition to 102 passengers, 30 escape pods, and 415
tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 6 has accommodations for ten BattleMechs and ten Aerospace
Fighters, with 62 passengers, 20 escape pods, and 139 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 7 carries a Nova of ten BattleMechs and fifty Elementals,
with 82 passengers, 30 escape pods, and 1,115 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 8 is primarily used by Clan Hell's Horses and carries one of
their mixed vehicle Trinary formations. Twenty light vehicles and fifty
Elementals can be embarked, along with 32 passengers, 30 escape pods, and
1,665 tons of cargo.
The Scorpion Mod 9 is used exclusively by Clan Blood Spirit for their Vehicle
Trinary units. This model carries thirty light vehicles, 12 passengers, has
30 escape pods, and can store 1,215 tons of cargo.
Finally, the Scorpion Mod A is a fighter carrier that can embark up to twenty
Aerospace Fighters. There is sufficient space for 62 passengers, 20 escape
pods, and 139 tons of cargo.
==Deployment==
The Scorpion has become synonomous with Clan military might over the past
century. This vessel is used to transport virtually all of the Clan toumens.
Small enough to be used for minor trials, yet tough enough and possessing
enough firepower to engage in major campaigns, the Scorpion series has proven
itself to be a major factor in the success of the Clans to date.

==Overview:==
The Arbalest is a very light DropShip (tonnage wise), but it carries the same
armor and weapon systems as a Scorpion, and possesses the same thrust. Unlike
the larger Troop Carrier, the Arbalest is optimized to carry a single Trinary
of Elementals and has no additional variants.
==Capabilities:==
The Arbalest is a spheroid DropShip massing 2,600 tons with a safe thrust of
2-g's and a maximum powered acceleration of 3-g's. It carries forty-six tons
of ferro-aluminum plating and is armed with a variety of energy based weapon
systems. The nose carries four ER PPCs and five ER Medium Lasers, while each
of the other five arcs are armed with five ER Medium Lasers and seven ER Small
Lasers. Like the Scorpion, the Arbalest is armed with four Arrow IV launchers
(60 shots total), mounted in pairs on the right and left sides in order to
support ground operations.
The design carries 75 Elementals and fifteen Techs, plus a crew of 3 officers,
2 crewmen, and 13 gunners. Up to twelve passengers can be carried and the
Arbalest is equipped with twenty escape pods. 158 tons of cargo can be stored
in the holds, and the DropShip has sufficient fuel tankage, food, water, and
life support to operate for a maximum duration of 180 days.

The Arbalest has not been modified from its base design parameters.
==Deployment==
Every Clan uses at least a few Arbalests. In most Clan toumens, there is at
least one per Cluster, although this does vary.

==Overview:==
The Mangorel is the heaviest of the Clan DropShips that normally sees use in a
combat role. Based in large part upon the SLDF Titan, this light carrier
embarks an entire aerospace fighter Trinary aboard a ship well-armored,
heavily armored, and faster than many fighter carriers in service. But the
designers of this vessel also corrected many of the faults of the Titan,
including the lack of substantial fuel stores and cargo space for munitions
for their birds. The final production model delivered on all of its promises
and provides the Clans with a capable fighter carrier and light system defense
craft to this day.
==Capabilities:==
The Mangorel is a 12,000 aerodyne DropShip that sacrifices nothing to be an
exceptional fighter carrier. Capable of attaining 2.5-g's of safe thrust and
4-g's of maximum emergency acceleration, this ship can evade many threats to
its existence. Sixty-seven and a half tons of ferro-aluminum armor plating
provide solid protection for this giant. Armament consists of four ER PPCs in
the nose, supported by five ER Medium Lasers, with five ER Medium Lasers and
seven ER Small Lasers in each wing (front and back) and stern.
But the primary purpose of this vessel is deliver and then support an
aerospace fighter Trinary of thirty fighters. Each Star has its own flight
deck, complete with a machine shop for the techs to conduct any needed
repairs. An ample supply of fuel is carried by the Mangorel and (unlike many
Star League era fighter carriers) there is more than thirteen hundred tons of
cargo space for spare parts and munitions.
==Variants:==
Currently, there are no variants of the Mangorel.
==Deployment==
Every Clan deploys at least one Mangorel in its toumen, but three Clans in
particular deserve special notice here. Both the Cloud Cobras and the Snow
Ravens field at least fifteen Mangorels which operate in 'Stars' of five
carriers, with a total embarked complement of one hundred and fifty aerospace
fighter--and entire Cluster's worth of fighter craft.
Each Clan maintains these fighter carrier Stars at their capital and other
important worlds, but commits them to battle in major trials. Predominately
used for system defense, they are one reason that the Cobra and Raven lack of
a sizable ground toumen has not resulted in their absorption or annihilation
over the years.
Clan Blood Spirit does not assign any aerospace fighters to its ground toumen.
Instead, each Spirit Galaxy is assigned two Mangorels whose sole purpose to
provide close support to the ground forces. The fighters remain under Spirit
Naval command, however, which has resulted in many botched operations over the
history of that Clan.

==Overview:==
The final vessel authorized by Nicolas Kerensky in the Clan Common WarShip
program was the Eta-class Troop Carrier. Knowing for himself just how
vulnerable JumpShips were to interdiction, the ilKhan decided to concentrate a
sizable part of his naval slips on converting old Carrack class ships into a
light, armed assault transport ship able to carry a single Cluster into a
planetary orbit and support it from there.
These ships carry supplies, munitions, and equipment for the Cluster, and
contain a complete HQ staff (consisting of retired Warriors and various
members of the civilian castes). The HQ staff uses the unique satellite
deployment system of the Etas to place surveillance/weather/communications
sats in orbit and advise the Cluster Commander of any changing conditions that
might affect his Trial. The staff also handles all Cluster personnel issues
and logistical needs of the Warrior caste, as well as seeing to intelligence
analysis.
In addition to carrying supplies and equipment, the Etas include an onboard
Repair Facility adjacent to the cargo bays, with access to all six DropShips.
This repair facility can process up to five BattleMechs, two Aerospace
Fighters, two vehicles, and twenty-five suits of Battle Armor at the same
time, but the technications assigned to the Cluster must undertake the
repairs, as only a skeleton crew is assigned to the Repair Facility.
==Capabilities:==
The Etas are 300,000 ton vessels that greatly resemble the old SLDF Carrack
class light cargo transports. The first Etas were built around the existing
Carrack-class compact cores, although later units were built new from the keel
up. The Etas have generally retained much of the same shape and dimensions as
the old Carracks. Maximum thrust is limited to 2.5-g's, but the design team
fitted the hull with 240 tons of lamellar ferro-carbide armor plating (even
the earliest Etas were outfitted with LFC stripped from existing Texas-class
BBs). The design incorporates 3,000 tons of lithium-fusion batteries, no
fewer than six docking collars, and would eventually be modified to include an
HPG transmitter.
Able to lift a an entire Cluster (normally aboard five Scorpion-class
DropShips), the six docking collar allows for either an additional cargo ship,
an assault ship, or a fighter carrier to support operations. Each Eta
carries 10 aerospace fighters and 50 Marine Elementals. Although under the
command of the onboard vessel commander, this Trinary has (upon occassion)
been pressed into service as reinforcements by the Star Colonel commanding the
Cluster.
In addition to the 3,000 ton Cluster HQ compartment detailed previously, the
Etas are equipped with a satellite launch bay massing another 3,000 tons.
This bay includes 144 multi-role satellites that can function as surveillance
sats, weather sats, communication sats, and early warning systems. There is
also a 5,000 ton dedicated Repair Facility onboard to handle any maintenance
needs by the transported Cluster.
Armament is uniform and contrates on either defending the Eta or providing
orbital fire support (as rare as that might be for the Clans of Kerensky).
Each arc carries a Medium Naval PPC, two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers
with Artemis IV (32 shots each), three ER Medium Lasers, and two Streak SRM-6
launchers (15 shots each).
In addition to the 14,228 tons of fuel and 15,000 tons of spare parts, the Eta
also has sizable cargo bays that be loaded with 25,945 tons of general cargo
storage. Four 135-meter diameter grav decks allows for ample room for the
ship's full complement, plus the accomodated troops. Up to 130 passengers
can be embarked--twenty-five of which are provided with 1st class staterooms
appropriate for senior Clan officials.

I have learned something about point defense today and so I am going back and removing it from these ships. It would take fourteen AMS in a single battery to make certain you could stop one Killer Whale. It's not worth it. I'm just going to revise these (and change the LRM to 15 packs and the Streaks to 6 packs, Vagabond) and put the extra tonnage into cargo.

==Overview:==
The Clan Common WarShip program was instituted during the reign of Nicolas
Kerensky as ilKhan. Although WarShips had no place in his vision of the
Clans, the surviving vessels of Aleksandry's Kerensky's Exodus Fleet
represented too much power to leave inactive--further, eventually the Clans
would either return to the Inner Sphere, or the Inner Sphere powers (or other
powers) would find them. Instead of simply dividing up the ships among the
various Clans (as in canon), in this setting Nicolas instead saw to the
construction of several shipyards orbiting Strana Mechty, shipyards that would
serve all of the Clans. Naval engineers from Snow Raven, Cloud Cobra, Star
Adder, Wolf, and other Clans began to survey all of the old SLDF
ships--fatigued first by the decade long war against Amaris, and then the
constant travel on the Exodus Road, and then again by the Pentagon Civil War,
the second Exodus, and Operation Klondike.
Instead of patching the damage and repairing the stressed systems on these old
ships, the Strana Mechty shipyards began to rebuild them. But they rebuilt
them according to new plans developed by Clan officers. The old Star
League paradigm of using the WarShips as transports was now hopelessly
obsolete, for once the Clans began to expand and grow, the numbers of ships
would be woefully insufficient. Instead, the Clan engineers concentrated
on making the WarShips into true WarShips that would be able to defend the
Clan Homeworlds--or enforce their will upon the Inner Sphere.
Although it took two centuries to accomplish, by the time that Operation
Revival Reborn was launched, the Clan Fleets had been completely transformed.
And the first of those new WarShips were the Clan Common Corvettes--the
Alpha-class.
==Capabilities:==
Built on the same dimensions as the Vincent-class, the first Alpha-class
Corvettes used the KF Drive Cores from those original Vincents, and many of
the initial batch included refurbished transit drives taken from those same
Vincents while they lay in dry-dock.
The engineers reinforced the structure of these ships and fitted a fifth
engine pod, giving the Clan Common Corvettes a safe thrust of 2.5-g's and an
emergency thrust of 4-g's. Four hundred and twenty tons of armor was
fitted to hull, at first ferro-carbide, but that was eventually replaced with
lamelllar ferro-carbide as that material became more readily available.
Next, 4,200 tons of lithium-fusion batteries were installed alongside the
compact-core. Over the years futher modifications would result in the
addition of an onboard HPG transmitter for faster-than-light communication.
The vast internal cargo holds of the Vincent were gutted during the redesign,
but engineers expanded the dedicated fuel storage tanks to hold 14,228 tons of
fuel. This large supply provides enough tankage to cruise at 1-g
acceleration for a standard year, although with the parasite craft also
drawing off the tankage and combat maneuvering consuming fuel at vastly
increased rates, an individual ship would be luckly if it went three months
before requiring the services of a fuel tanker.
One of the largest complaints the naval officers of the time had about the
Vincent (and other SLDF corvettes and destroyers) was that it lacked any
docking collars. Although the SLDF Fleet was so huge that it was deemed
inefficient to provide such light ships with transport capability, the Clan
engineers fitted the Alpha-class with one docking collar. Dramatically
increasing the vessels flexibility, the docking collar could embark a fighter
carrer, an assault DropShip, a cargo ship, or even a trooper-carrier, giving
the young Clans a variety of options.
Fighter complement was increased to a total of ten, reflecting the new Clan
organization, and the small craft cut down to just two shuttles. With the
DropShip docking collar now available, the need for small craft to transfer
cargo vanished and the shuttles embarked were used primarily for personnel
transfers. In addition, space was provided to embark a point of Marine
infantry--later replaced with a Star of Marine Elementals. Twenty-one
thousand tons were set aside for the storage of necessary spart parts and
sundry supplies required by the ship's crew.
Capital armament consisted of six NAC-10 Naval Autocannons, each supplied with
50 shots. Mounted in the bow, fore-quarters, stern-quarters, and stern,
these guns provided 360-degree coverage, and although rather light for capital
weapons proved more than ample at busting DropShips or forcing JumpShips into
submission. Concerned with overburdening the vessel, the designers did not
mount any capital weapons in the broadsides arcs, but these areas were covered
by the fore- and stern-quarters weapons.
In a distinct departure from standard SLDF practice, the designers next
included a formidable array of standard anti-fighter weaponry. Upgraded
many times over the past two hundred years, the array now consists of two ER
Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV (32 shots each), three ER
Medium Lasers, and two Streak SRM-6 launchers.
At full complement, the Alpha-class could embark up to three hundred
personnel, ninety-eight of which could be passengers or additional crew or
troops. Provisions and life support were provided for 360 days, with the
remaining tonnage (23,153 tons) were allocated to cargo storage. Although
a pittence when compared to SLDF vessels, the combination of general cargo,
provisions, fuel, life support, and spare parts came to more than 13.9% of the
ship's total volume: a figure that the Clan engineers considered to be
acceptable.
For two centuries, these craft have served the Clans as light patrol, recon,
and raiding vessels and have been the front line in the endless war against
the Dark Caste bandits

Originally, with twenty-three Vincent class Corvettes available for the Clan

Why do you put so many standard scale weapons on these Warships?
And I cannot help but feel you are abusing the capital scale damage rounding. Do you use the twin LRM/10 w/ ArtIV and StSRM/4 because it'll round up to 2 Capital Damage? Why not a LRM/15 w/o ArtIV?

I have always felt that most (early) canon WarShips lacked the ability to engage hostile fighters. Of course, they did have capital missile launchers, which let them scare off a few squadrons. But when considering the percentage of volume that it would take to add an effective anti-fighter belt to a ship, it make little sense not to do so. To me.
As time goes on (in canon), we do see that warships get progressively heavier on standard weapons. What I have tried to do here was establish a 'baseline armament' for the standard anti-fighter/anti-dropship weapon systems that would then be repeated across the Clan Common WarShip Program. Sort of like the quad 40mm and twin 20mm of WW2 USN vessels.
I was not looking at it like trying to game the rules, Vagabond, but I was trying to make the ships as efficient as possible. And if it is possible to inflict the same damage with a lighter and less expensive weapon system, then wouldn't any navy use it? Of course, we are only talking about saving 56 tons (including ammo) by use LRM-10 (A4) and Streak SRM-4 instead of LRM-15 (A4) and Streak SRM-6.

==Overview:==
The second class of new ships produced by the Clan Common WarShip program was
the Beta-class Transports. Intended to replace the Carrack, Volga, and
Potemkin class vessels with one unified cargo/transport vessel, the Beta-class
has proven to be exceptionally capable in that regard. Although unable to
carry the sheer number of DropShips of a Potemkin--and more lightly armed and
armored than a Volga--the Beta-class is not meant to serve as a WarShip.
Instead it transports supplies and raw materials that the Clans need to fuel
their war-machine, leaving combat roles to other vessels.
==Capabilities:==
Clan engineers used the same 420,000 ton hull and compact core KF drive system
as the Alpha-class Corvette in the construction of the Beta-clas Transport.
Transit drive pods were reduced from five to two, resulting in a maximum
acceleratio of just 1.5-g's and a safe thrust of only 1-g. This was deemed
as adequete, however, given the new vessel's role as a transport and cargo
ship.
All capital scale armament was removed, although a light battery of secondary
weapons and defensive systems were retained. When compared to the
Alpha-class, the Betas also saw a reduction in internal reinforcement and the
installation of less than half the armor plating. However, the designers
kept the lithium-fusion batteries, HPG transmitter, and increased the docking
collars from 1 to 6.
Fighter support was eliminated, replaced by a second bay of two small craft
shuttles, and while space was retained for a Star of battle-armored infantry,
in reality the Betas normally carried 25 second-line conventional infantry
equipped with PA (L) suits based on the SLDF Nighthawk instead of true
Elemental armor.
However, the design carries more than 28,000 tons of fuel and has the capacity
to carry in excess of 100,000 tons of general cargo in its two cargo
holds--this is in addition to the dedicated storage of 21,000 tons of spare
parts. Passenger space can now embark up to 100 passengers, with additional
cargo and passenger accomodations aboard the attached DropShips. The
Beta-class vessels also include equipment for transferring fuel to other ships
in deep space, allowing them to serve as tankers for long duration
assignments. If the need for even more fuel arises, the aft cargo bay can be
quickly modified for fuel storage--doubling the internal fuel capacity of
these vessels.
In place of either cargo or fuel, the aft bay can also be modified to a
passenger compartment able to carry up to 5,000 personnel in cramped quarters.
Although the Clans only seldom converted these vessels to function as
passenger ships, the capacity has proven useful on a number of
occassions--particulary when transporting large numbers of civlian workers to
newly colonized worlds.

==Overview:==
The Gamma-class Aerospace Fighter Carrier was the third of the Clan Common
WarShip designs authorized for reconstruction. Although originally based on
the Riga-class Fighter Carrier of the SLDF (itself a direct descendant of the
Samarkand II-class ships that the Star League acquired from the Draconis
Combine), only five vessels of that class had managed to survive the rigors of
the Armaris Coup and the Exodus Road.
Further, all five vessels had suffered signficant damage during the Pentagon
Civil War and Operation Klondike. Nicolas Kerensky himself wrote the order
that the Rigas were instead to be scrapped for parts salvaged from their
hulls. Instead, the Clan engineers turned to the Essex-class Destroyers as
the basic design that would turn into the new Clan Light Carrier. Also a
fairly uncommon design in the Clan Fleet (casualties among the Essex-class had
been extreme to say the least), there were sufficient vessels in service to
provide every Clan with one Light Carrier.
==Capabilities:==
When the Gamma-class project began, the existing Essex-class hulls were
stripped down and the KF compact cores were surveyed and repaired when
necessary, while 6,200 tons of lithium fusion batteries were fitted. Further
modifications would see the installation of an HPG transmitter as well. The
original armor was replaced with 740 tons of lamellar ferro-carbide
(originally just ferro-carbide, but subsequent refits added the LFC plating as
that material became more widely available).
The design team kept most of the original armament--in spirit, if not an exact
match in configuration. The NAC-20s that made up such a fearsome part of the
weapons array were replaced with NAC-30s and consolidated into three two-gun
and one single batteries, each gun having 50 shots (nose, fore-quarters have
twin mounts, the stern having the single). While the twin Medium Naval PPCs
were kept in the broadsides and stern-quarters, the NL-35 Naval Lasers were
upgradded to NL-45s, increasing both range and damage. The Barracuda
launchers were completely removed.
For defense against smaller DropShips, aerospace fighters, and small craft,
the new Gamma-class mounted an extensive array of secondary batteries: each
arc contained two ER Large Lasers, two LRM-15 launchers with Artemis IV (32
shots per launcher), three ER Medium Lasers, and two Streak SRM-6 launchers
(15 shots per launcher). Nearly a thousand tons of heat exchangers, power
amplifiers, and double-strength heat sinks were fitted, allowing the Gammas to
make full use of their extensive weaponry.
The design team next turned their attention to the most important part of the
design: modifying the Essex-class hull into a carrier. The original
fighter and small craft bays were removed and replaced with a single massive
hanger bay capable of storing no fewer than 60 aerospace fighters and four
small craft. Eight bay doors allowed for up to sixteen fighters or shuttles
to be launched or recovered simultaneously, permitting the Gammas to put their
entire complement of fighters into space in under twenty minutes.
Fuel stores were increased to 14,228 tons, but the Gammas still require the
close presence of a tanker, due to the high fuel consumption of their two
Fighter Trinarys. Although the original Essex-class did not mount any
docking collars, the Gammas were modified to carry two, allowing for
cargo/fuel vessels, assault DropShips, or even additional fighter Carriers to
be embarked. Spare parts storage was an ample 31,000 tons.
At full complement, the Gammas could embark a total of 480 personnel, up to
111 of whom could be passengers, additional crewmen, or additional replacement
pilots. Eighty escape pods were then installed, along with crew quarters for
the pilots and technical support crews of the fighters and small craft.
Space was made available for a Star of Marine Elementals (at the time of the
introduction of the Gammas, this was a Point of Marine conventional infantry)
to provide shipboard security.
The remaining 34,971 tons of internal volume were dedicated to general cargo
storage. Overall, the Gammas possessed a cargo fraction (including spares,
provisions, life support, and fuel) in excess of 12.8% of the total ships
displacement.

==Deployment==
Additional construction over the past two centuries have resulted in
twenty-four Gamma-class Fighter Carriers currently on active duty with the
Clans. An additional two ships (Essex and Lexington) are manned by members
of the Ebon Keshik and are charged with protecting Strana Mechty and its
orbital facilities. These two vessels owe their allegiance to the ilKhan,
not to any specific Clan and only seldom leave the Strana Mechty system.
