Beyond upsetting a few folks who seem to be so proud of their stuff being official, I don't see anything wrong with the idea. It has been done to all of the mechs in TRO3055 so I am pretty sure it has also been done in some way to the TROs after that one. So I say post away and we can see what we get. More stuff is always good and who knows, maybe it will get us something better in that we have average to decent, not average to WTF are they think units. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

I was thinking more in lines of the old is new sections of the TRO (good stuff IMO). Just description, no hard stats. They are easier to work with and we all know that a trained monkey can make a stat block out of that stuff with HMPro at hand, right? My thoughts are that all designs, even the botches, show some intention and we can easily steer an upgrade toward that direction with little effort while retaining some common sense. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Works for me, I was aiming for what Ruger and company around here did to the TRO3055 mechs, showing that even with the then high tech wonder toys you could pretty much down grade some things and revamp the mechs and still end up with the same over all mech that was in the TRO to start with, but at less cost and silliness.
Using the old is new idea is fine, it does indeed give a starting point... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Are you talking budget refits or "lvl1" refits? Sounds like an awesome idea, either way! 8) _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

I am going with the idea that if a mech can do the same thing as the one in the TRO with less new crap or the new stuff can be used BETTER, then the mech could be redone and still give the same job performance. I am not talking about dropping tech levels, though a few would be better off without some of the new wonder toys.
Hey let's toss an XL in there, improved jumps and only increase the movement total one hex more. Wow. Really impressive, yeppers that will really help win the battle.
A good example of this is found here on these boards or in the archives, where folks took the 3055 mechs, you know like the Dart and Fireball etc...redid them so that they didn't have every new wonder toy crammed into them and funny how they came out better or on par with the originals. That is what I think we could be doing with these. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Yeah, I remember these, but I'd rather keep more to the original designs in this case. There is a reason for me, for example, to build tanks only under 50 tons if possible. They take up only half of the drop ship space. This, hwever, doesn't mean that I'll try to make challenger-lite _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

my comment was simply in response to the why are they using a plethora of tech when you can build it with less or better tech. Chibi uses lots of advanced tech on each design... but not just to use it but to miniaturize it. If i was trying to be faithful i would have pointed out other designs. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

I was just pointing out, that I was looking more toward simple refits than reworks _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

We can do both. I don't think it would hurt to try any ways. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Doesn't have to be the same TRO...pick one and go with it. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Actually it's just like the older TROs (which is a part of Morel's database), but with different art and some higher-tech variants. I'll Work with the basic models at first an perhaps alter some newer technologies if I find them particularly botched. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!
