A web security group known as Goatse (yes, that Goatse...) found a gaping flaw in the programming that allowed external computer systems to access the personal data for 114,000 iPad users.
Making matters worse is that many of these people who had their systems compromised were folks in high places... like Rahm frikkin' Emmanuel himself.
AT&T is doing what it can to plug the holes, but if I read the article right Apple hasn't moved beyond the "issue mass apologies" stage.
**
From what I've seen, Apple's vaunted advantage against crackers and viruses was really a product of them being so comparatively obscure and in such limited use compared to IBM-clones that there was simply no point in trying to cause havoc with them; they'd get more people and cause more damage by going after the folks with IBM-clones.
Now that Apple's products are smash hits and they're gaining considerable numbers of users each month, it might now be worth someone's time to start making noise. Apple really needs to get on the ball if they want to prevent any malicious breaches from taking place. _________________ "I wish I could write as mysterious as a cat." -Edgar Allen Poe"I knew there was something special about you, but I never realized you were really a cat." But if they admit they were never hack proof to start with, then they lose their ad campaign that has been their biggest selling point to the mass markets. And then they open themselves up possible false advertisment charges since their product is not hacker proof etc...
Seriously they need to do something and I agree a hey wait if more folks use our stuff, then we might want to be ready for the hackers etc...hell they should have noticed all the CLONE I-PHONES out of Asia as a hint that their stuff wasn't as safe as they claimed etc... _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

This is why those of us in the "know" in the tech community refer to Apple supports as "Apple Fanboys!" - because they're lulled by the ad campaign into false security.
Mac's have always been overpriced junk toys. You can do far less easily than you can in Windows, and the only reason its more stable is that its built on UNIX... but then it makes flaws since it hides so much of the underlying UNIX structure with Mac gui software built on top.
If you want the power and stability you get from a UNIX-like OS, don't waste money on a Mac. Buy a PC w/out an OS installed and install Linux. Even the paid Linux I use is pretty cheap and really good.
As an example, recently a friend of mine bought a Mac with her tax return. $10,000. Yeah. That's right. A souped up iMac. 10 Grand. I could have built essentially the same system for her for $2k-$2.5k using Linux. Hmm. Who wouldn't thunk? And now she's unhappy with the Mac. Smooth. _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'

The problem with Linux is the average computer user has no idea how to use it, and has no idea what to do if things go wrong.
I just bought a new PC with Windows 7 on it. I am so far very impressed. _________________ www.210sportsblog.com

I don't argue that Chi, but Mac is the SAME WAY. So if you're gonna take the learning curve, take it on Linux instead of a Mac.
[edit]
I wanted to Add that several Mac Fanboys have said its easier to get help with a Mac because they have 24/7 live phone support. Bullshit. If you get one of the PAID Linux distros (like my Mandriva PowerPack, currently around $65us, per year for support with that... and Apple gives I think 3? free years with a Mac) you can get just as good of quality support. And Linux has MUCH better end user support via hundreds of dedicated forums too.
[/edit]
And I do admit I was impressed by 7, but only because of how much improvement over Vista it is. Its STILL a resource hog. Especially the WinSXS folder. Just like Vista, and to a much lesser extent, XP.
I made the full switch to Linux 3 years ago. And I've never looked back. The ONLY reason I keep my XP sticker around, is so I can have an XP virtual machine using VMWare... for 3 softwares. One of those is HeavyMetal Plus, Another is HeavyMetal Aero. zMUD is another. So Zugg of zuggsoft.com should feel pleased, though not so much as Rick Raisley should. _________________ Colonel Ralgith t'Mayasara Blighted Sun Battalion 1st Company 'Ralgith's Renegades'
