I did this version to see how close I could get, at least in spirit, to the
Macross Gladiator.
To begin with, the Autocannon. Although not actually used in the anime, the
design specs for the Gladiator - as noted in the RPG manuals - had it that
there was a "gun cluster" (IIRC) mounted in the area above the cockpit; that
flat surface was actually a flip-up panel. Said cluster contained a main gun
(50mm IIRC), a machine gun, a laser, a flamethrower, and a grenade launcher.
The AC/2 - medium laser combo is my attempt at replicating this w/in BTech
rules.
The antenna-looking thing atop the mech? That was supposed to be a turreted
laser; hence, the head-mounted rear-firing weapon.
And the rockets, well that should be pretty much self-explanatory. The two
side torsos were packed full of rockets & missiles, and the legs had twin
rocket pods on the sides.
The RLs in the arms were simply me filling tonnage. I was toying with slapping
an SRM 2 and ammo in the right arm and some sort of electronics in the left as
an homage to a character I once had (he tricked out his Gladiator by slapping
the launchers from a Cyclone on one arm and installing some scaveneged comm
gear from a crashed ship in the other), but decided against it in favor of raw
firepower. If asked, however, I'll do up a version with that load-out.)

I went ahead and did that custom anyway.
Marked drop in raw firepower, but it now has a little more punch for once the rockets are gone.

And if your going to duplicate the robotech feel, maybe a torso cockpit refit so that you can put stuff in head would be better. If memory serves all the mecha had the control center in the chest. _________________ one must work hard to cultivate the mind and body. and one must always cultivate the mind.

Not for the Destroids.
The Gladiator (Archer) and Raider X (Rifleman) had their cockpits right where the heads are in BTech, as did the Officer Pod (Marauder) and all of the other Zentradi pods (Ostscout, Ostroc, Ostol, Ostwar).
