For some the RLs fit their style of what a mech would have, for me the RLs are vehicle weapons only, I won't put them on a mech, I would rather have missile system that can fire after one shot thus able to do more over a longer period of time then spurts of high damage over a shorter period of time. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Well, on vehicles they certainly work much better RLs are ideal for pseudomilitary upgrades. Military-grade fireworks that can be installed with simple trigger, iron sights and duct tape. They were IMO added just for this type of refits. They may not be the best game mechanic-wise, but they have the Battletech flavour, quite unlike the plasma rifle, which still needs to become a part of the universe in our minds... if it ever will make it that far. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Plasma weapons to me are more of the heat damage with some surface damage. Thinking really big flamethrowers here that do a little extra given that they are more powerful then normal flammers.
Or the are space based weapons, but that lends to watching to many other sci-fi shows and reading books set in other sci-fi universes. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

Nothing against them mechanically, but they don't fit in too much... flame is also plasma, so they ARE ranged flamers, but I've already found a weapon to cover them.
A little known experimental Russian weapon called Ampulomet.
some pics.
If the Liao somehow perfected this... _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

Worst weapons ever?
OS are total crap (like said before ).
Even the improved OS aren't worth their tonnage in my eyes.
I like Narc somewhat better but i think they are too heavy for what they offer (like said before ).
I do like RL quite a bit mostly on lighter machines. Units that doesn't have a long "half-life" can use them much better than an additional small laser they have to close with to get a shot. But i still see no point in using RL-15's or -20's.
To get jettisonable RL's use the Pod-rules for VTOLS and Fighters. An initial salvo of 5 RL-10 for only 5 bomb units can come handy sometimes _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Thread necromancy...
As an old fart who defected to the Clanners way back when, nothing before or after ever quite matched my disappointment at the Heavy Small Laser.
And to think that turd even has some fans... more so than medium (1-ton, 10 pt weapon, nuff said) or the large (4-ton head-capper), the Heavy Small Laser is just completely useless compared to its ER brethren:
ERSL: .5 tons, 1 crit, 5 damage, 2 heat, 2/4/6 range
HSL: .5 tons, 1 crit, 6 damage, 3 heat, 1/2/3 range, +1 to hit
Maybe it is just that the Clan ERSL is too good? _________________ "Rear armour is defeatist!" - unknown Kuritan Mechwarrior

My least favorite weapon is the Heavy Gauss Rifle. It doesn't make sense that a 'Mech that fires one of those weapons has to make a piloting skill roll whereas when it shoots two standard Gauss Rifles it doesn't have to make a psr. By the way, I think this topic belongs on the General Forum.
