Just a quick note,
Firebee, Firebee Jr, and I had a fun time. It was an absolutely spectacular ride from Western MA out to Schenectady with the fall foilage at its peak. We went only for Sunday out and back. The Con was in full swing in a very kewl building called the Proctor, which had theatres, a cafe, shops, and such. Mike C ran a BattleTech event:
Republican Royal Joust * Classic Battletech
F-Minis-1 * $ 2
Game Master: Michael Ciaravella * 16 Players
Republican Royal Joust - As the culmination of the 25th Battletech Anniversary Council Festivities, we will be holding a very special event, the First Annual Council Knights of the Republic Tournament. While not every Knight of the Republic is necessarily a champion of the battlefield, our distinguished Paladins, which are drawn from their ranks, will always be christened by fire. Due to the long standing peace in the Republic, one of the few opportunities for such displays of martial skill was during the yearly Knights Round Table Tournament, where Republic Knights could display their skills with the few Battlemechs that remained in regular use. With the damage to the HPG net, as a showing of solitude and support in these trying times, the Exarch has magnanimously agreed to broadcast the competition, so as to foster greater confidence in the continuation of Stone’s Dream. So come out for what promises to be a grand competition, and earn the rank of Grand Knight of the Tournament. The Joust will be held in a series of one on one battles, single or double elimination, depending on the number of registered players. Please bring four Battlemech Record Sheets, one for each weight class. Piloting and Gunnery Skills will be decided by the Tournament Director. NOTE: This is a two-slot event. It will run into the “G” afternoon slot. Please bring four Battlemech Record Sheets, one for each weight class. Beginners encouraged.
We ran into Glen and had a good laugh about a BattleSpace event he ran at TotalCon years ago , and Tom saw Steve P running a game upstairs, but I didn't have a chance to talk to him.
There was a big turnout for the Friday BattleTech game, but on Sunday only one other player(Tom) joined in for the tournament. In round one I beat him with a Venom vs Valkyrie, and Jr beat FBee with a Lao Hu vs Crusader. In round two I beat FBee with a Fafnir vs Beserker, and Jr beat Tom with a Devastator vs Sagittaire. In the finals I beat Jr with a Wolverine/Venom team vs Hunchback/spider team to become THE GRAND KNIGHT! Along with the accolades i also received a nicely painted Lancelot miniature!
Then came the Convention auction! What a great fricken idea! I wish TotalCon had one! Mordel!Chihawk! Convince them to do it!!!!!!!
I scored a Robo-Rally game $7, Transformers game $4, Ruin Boardgame $4, and there was ALOT of other stuff, too much to mention. The dealers section had a great variety of stuff also.
I still can't believe that I've been to 3 BattleTech cons in '09! (HorhiroCon included ) We will be making Council a regular yearly trip (cause I always have Columbus Day weekend off). Mike C. also said he is putting together some stuff for Total. Perhaps even a "Succession Wars" Boardgame event! Kewl!

I have no pull at Total. I'm just lucky they let me through the doors!
Sounds like fun though. Wish I could go to more of these, but with the fam I'm fortunate she lets me out of the house once a year! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Yes, Mordel, I feel your pain.
But you do get to go to Total for all 4 days! That's why I have HorhiroCon...so I don't have to leave the house.
We will have to get MR VIP (aka Chihawk) to throw some smack around and get us an auction! I'm sure everyone has lots of junk, ....errr....I mean old unused really cool stuff, to unload. _________________ "I have lived my life trying to be a virtuous man. Yeah. 4 days is pretty cool. But hell, I grandfathered into that. I was doing it for 9 years before her. So she couldn't take it away and still feel good about herself. Could she?... _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

But that's never stopped my wife! _________________ "I have lived my life trying to be a virtuous man. The Dragon admires tenacity, and the code of the samurai upholds it as well." -Minobu Tetsuhara
