Anyone have any idea how much money nobility of various levels pulls down? The average Inner Sphere wage is 750 c-bills every two weeks or so (according to my old copy of the Mercenary Field Manual.).

Perhaps it could be figured out with a multiplier based on how big an area the noble commands, as well as a bit of randomness injected based on how well his property is doing?

Basic knights would get their normal job wages plus that 750, minor nobles (baronets?) would get 4x 750 c-bills (of course, at any rank higher than knight being a noble is essentially your job). Barons would be 6x (4,500), dukes would be 8x (6,000) and Grand Dukes would be 10x (7,500). Bonuses or penalties would be issued based on how things were going, which could either be within the control of the noble (like taxes) or out of his control (raids and bad weather).

I could probably inject far too much detail into this. But for now, how do those basics look?

In the MW 3rd ed manual, it stated about how much money a noble with a land grant could earn a month based on their land holdings; it's in the traits section under "Land Grant".

The MW3 Companion introduced the Property trait, a way for characters who were not nobles to still own land. Again, the relevant income per month chart is in with the trait.

Blast. Why didn't I think of that...*goes to look*

Edit: Actually, it just states that you have a house and incidental expenses are essentially "free". That makes it simple, but impossible to use it to make money.

Check again; there should be an actual data table.

Sorry, I checked through, closest I can find is the wealth table. I've got Mechwarrior 3rd edition...there aren't multiple printings of it, are there?

I think the 750 wage was for MechWarriors, who are minor nobility for the most part, so I think that answers your question for the base wage at the lowest level.

If you are still looking for this info, the Tables are in Classic BattleTech Companion, which is actually the Mechwarrior 3rd Edition Companion

The General Table for the levels of nobility in the innersphere as a Whole is on Page 203, this covers the Title, Size of the Land Grant That normally comes with the title, the PERSONAL income of the Noble.

Then on page 205 is the total landholds finances...
Multiply the Nobles Personal Income on Page 203 by 20
then from that figure The Noble or Nobles Governemnt spends these amounts
5% of what the Landhold gets goes to the Noble (this is the amount detailed on p. 203)
20% goes to the State (Generally the next layer of Nobility)
15% goes to building or maintaining the Landhold Infastructure
20% goes to obtaining supplies that the landhold does not manufacure
20% goes to staff salaries (Administrators, Laborers, other Support Staff)
20% goes to military procurement, police procurement, military salaries, police salaries, other Security costs etc.

Each House or region has its own amounts that the Average Noble of a given class will earn, but the revenue that the Noble's Governement (or the equivelent Level of Government if there is not a noble) takes in can be calculated using the numbers in the relevant House Handbook for the Personal Income of the Noble (hidden towards the back of the book most of the time) and multiplying that number by 20.

Nice Post. It seems they hit the point you have to pay to keep your Land Grant paying you. Not just an endless money spout.

AWAD- But the economics system of BTech universe is whacked, compeletly

*shrugs* I originally hit the question because I was curious as to what benefit a merc unit could get out of knowing a noble, or having one in the ranks. While the Dragoons have gotten rather out of hand being uber, and now the Kell Hounds as well, the Hounds originally had a good set up. Regiment to fight, and a planet to keep all their stuff at. On the planet was a small 'Mech factory to get'em spare parts. Nothing like having your own supply lines.

I guess I was originally trying to hammer out how much outside sources of income could contribute to a merc unit. I gave up though, because it became way too fuzzy to try and deal with in a campaign. (The pay to play version is the easiest way to write it off too. Sure, you're a Duke...doesn't matter though unless you wanna spend time being the Duke.)
