Well Fellow Mordelians I need your assistance.
I will be firing up another Btech campaign in the New Year. Took a 6 month break after running for 3 years. In my world the Clans never show up, Level 2 equipment does come about but in a slower more drawn out system. XL engines I am a little restrictive on.
So if you would please help me out your names will go down in lore in my campaigns. I would like to see some variants of Steiner Mechs that fall inbetween the 3025 and 3050 versions. Or some of the new Mechs but just without as much Lvl 2 Tech. Some fluff for justification would be wonderful. If in HMP it saves me time or I can type it in.
The one I think is the best will get big time props in my game. I will let you know.
Thanks in advance.

Try this!
As i don't know details about your alternative BT history the fluff is somewhat short.

Maximum Speed: 64,8 km/h

Communications System: TharHes Euterpe HM-14
Targeting & Tracking System: TharHes Ares-8a
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
As new technology came available in the Inner Sphere TharHes Industries of Tharkad made the bold decision to create their new design as a four-legged 'Mech. Due to the Scorpion and Goliath 'Mechs the quad design has been much maligned for centuries, but nevertheless TharHes went or it!
Upon viewing the finished 'Mech's animalistic grace and power, the Archon
named it Barghest, after the savage, wolf-like creatures of mythology.
==Capabilities:==
To avoid an expensive XL engine the designers chose an EndoSteel skeleton. A massive Defiance 'Mech Hunter autocannon delivers devastating firepower while two of the new BlazeFire Sweetshot ER large lasers give respectable long range capability.
Despite carrying double heat sinks the pilot has to keep a close eye on the
heat scale.
The armor is stronger than on any two-legged 'Mech of its class.

That looks like a fun toy. I can imagine a large metal wolf slowly slinking along waiting for the prey to stray too close.

The Barghest as the first one. I like it. Big and Ponderous. A little bit of a cross of Goliath and Zeus. This is what I look for, strength and weakness.
It does have decent long range punch. Also single crushing short range weapon. Infantry and light vehicles could be a problem. Like Steiner would think of that. The heatsink issue is nice. You can fire a lot but if not careful in a few rounds be raging hot.
This fits what I am after. Has some new technolog but not over kill. Also you can see the progression. Maybe prove out endo steel. Everything else all normal tech. Then to address the heat issue (2LL and AC20) they added dual heat sinks. Finally to address range they made them ERLL.
Does Barghest mean anything in German? This would be the an advance prototype vehicle. A couple sent out to militia type units to see if the Quad design helps or hinders less skilled pilots.
AWAD- So Rudel, what do want to known as in my game?

Barghest is a dog-like monster (In D&D it can change between wolf and goblin form and eat souls )

I chose a quad because i quite like the contrast between a really dangerous front and an unguarded rear. Lance tactics are important to this 'Mech.
I didn't like the 10 DHS of the original with its two large ER lasers. It was quite pointless.

That was exactly how my design-process was!!!
I took the BGS-1T, stripped it of all high-tech and begun to think what little high-tech to add again.

Not really. Here something from wiki:
Barghest, Bargtjest, Bo-guest or Bargest is the name given in the north of England, especially in Yorkshire, to a mythical monstrous black dog with huge teeth and claws. One is said to frequent a remote gorge named Troller's Gill. There is also a story of a Barghest entering the city of York occasionally, where, according to legend, it preys on lone travellers in the city's narrow Snickelways. Whitby is also associated with the spectre.[1]
The derivation of the word barghest is disputed. Ghost in the north of England was once pronounced guest, and the name is thought to be burh-ghest: town-ghost. Others explain it as German Berg-geist (mountain spirit), or Bär-geist (bear-spirit), in allusion to its alleged appearance at times as a bear. Another mooted derivation is 'Bier-Geist', the 'spirit of the funeral bier'.
By the way!! The BGS-1T Barghest is an official BT design from TRO 3060 that i modified to suit your needs!!

I agree with the Sentinel statement. Look at my review of it. My issue is this is 10 more? I do like as a custom Mech, especially the 3025 verison.
I was looking to take known Mechs like the Hauptman and Hollander from later TRs and roll them back a little.
AWAD- I would take a Wasp over the Sentinel

Speaking of the Sentinel:
I tried a variant that dropped the Streak and small laser for two medium lasers and a ton of ammo.
Quite useful now but still not really good.

It was so much like the Hermes II, why?????
Make it different. So below is an idea and if I made it 5/8. Not a great mech but an idea.
Type/Model: Sentinel STN-2AC2
Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025
Config: Biped BattleMech
Rules: Level 1, Standard design
Mass: 40 tons
Chassis: Defiant V Standard
Power Plant: 200 Pitban Fusion
Walking Speed: 54.0 km/h
Maximum Speed: 86.4 km/h
Jump Jets: None
Jump Capacity: 0 meters
Armor Type: Valiant Lamellor Standard
Armament:
2 Autocannon/2s
1 Medium Laser
1 SRM 2
Manufacturer: Defiance Industries
Location: Furillo / LA (DI)
Communications System: StarLink/Benicia Model AS829G
Targeting & Tracking System: Targa-7, Vid-Com-17
So it looses 1 point potential damage at range but gets all kinds of additional range. Also it has a little more medium punch range. The armor add does not offset loss of movement but it may help survival.
AWAD- Maybe make is a Shadowhawk that can not jump?

Interesting takes on things. I am still pondering which revamps I have fit what AWAD wants...

I misformulated it (again and yes I may be creating words... again ). I originally wanted it to REPLACE the Sentinel, it isn't based on the chassis at all.
This is just a thing that was hanging around for a while, I'll make another 'Mech for your contest... as I'm thinking about it would you like some vehicles as well?

I just thought how would a tech address the weak short-range weaponry without having to disassemble the whole mech. Something like a field upgrade but with some heavy gear in reach (because of the armor).
Missed my quoted reply to the Barghest?

With this one I dropped the XL, felt it wasn't needed. I also tossed the MPL. The mech is now a fire support or sniper...
