Really? I could have sworn I wrote an evnvelope up and gave it to chihawk. I didn't put your real name though, I put Pinhead on it, if I remember correctly. What the hell do you need another award for anyway! You know next year you'll bring another 3025 stok spider into it and win once again.
The track is actually a great event because it requires skill. You can bring the big mech in, but you aren't likely to win. And when you have a light one, you have to use some skill and a lot of advanced planning. Which is why you've won it both times you've played it when I ran it.
And also why you caused my early exit the one time I played in it with you (bastard)! _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

Which reminds me, I need to bring my digital camera to Monte Diablo. Maybe I'll even get bold and figure out how to post the pics I take there so you guys can see me and Kraken and the rest of the Mordellians who show up there.

Battletech Maximus isn't bad for a game that was designed in what 15 or 20 minutes?
Even better, I don't think the rules have changed much if at all since it was designed.
The idea in mind when it was created was to give folks a reason to learn to move their mechs. I had been seeing more and more that folks ideas of "good" mechs were walking bunkers, that unload a heap of junk on anything that walks by.
So the track was set up originally hoping that it would give folks an interesting way to prove their skills in light to medium mechs.
This was of course blown out of the water the very first time we played when Darryl, The other Waterboy, and his buddy all took 100 tonners that could barely move...
So far though I am happy to say that each time I have run it, or played in it a fairly light fast mech has won it. I started running stock 3025 Spiders in it mostly to give Scott and Darryl a hard time, but this is the third time I've won it in a stock 3025 spider.
I actually enjoy it significantly more than Caverns of Hell, which are also a lot of fun.

When I was one of the few people taking assaults it was fun because everyone had to go past me 3 times to win...I was a legitimate obsticle to victory. Now that nearly everyone takes them it does remove much of the fun.
I do like the idea of limiting it to Inner Shpere mechs, which we did a couple years ago. I think the discussion of limiting it to 3050 tech we had this year is a good idea too.

I see nothing wrong with taking large mechs in the Maximus. However when the mechs are 3/5/0 they are obviously not racing. I have always used heavies but with at least 4/6/0 plus MASC. There needs to be emphasis on the race than killing people. I dont think Pinhead would be very happy if I actually hit him with anything besides my mediums. Its not fun to lose early in the game because you started near a 100 tonner with a HGR and a lot of Med pulses (just an example )

kewl! My goal for next years con is to run an event for 1 slot (4hrs) where we get ALL the con's Btech players to play. I'm thinking we should be able to field about 25 or so.

Well Horhiro, we may be getting that chance.
Can't say anything just yet as the bugs haven't been worked out, but there is a good chance we (all) can make it happen.

That sounds exciting. Keep me updated as it becomes possible for you to do so. I'm very interested in what's cooking.
