Proof that life does exist after death....in the case of Babylon 5 - 4 deaths.
This ambitious new straight to DVD Babylon 5 project was conceived several years ago by B5 creator J. Michael Stracyinski, shelved in favor of a big screen adaptation, and revisited after the movie was dropped due to creative problems between rights owner and JMS.
What we have is a series of DVDs written and directed by JMS himself that take us back to the Babylon 5 universe. Each episode of at least 45 minutes each will explore previously un-explained story lines in the B5 universe. The first two have just recently landed on a shelf near you on one DVD.
The key to these new DVDs was fan-demands. The B5 fanbase has demanded new B5 since the ill-fated Crusade and badly done B5: Legend of the Rangers. With the permission of WB, the blessing of JMS and a requirement by all involved that only original cast members be used (G'Kar and Dr. Franlkin will NOT be re-cast) the new DVD was launched.
The first new story takes place on Babylon 5 and centers around Colonel Lockely as she prepares B5 for the 10 year anniversary of the Interstellar Alliance. A quiet station-worker has suddently began acting strange and the Colonel requests the service of a Priest from Earth to attempt to correct a demonic problem this man faces.
The second, and much more grand story follows Alliance President John Sheridan as he makes his trip from Capital planet Mimbar to B5 for the celebration. Along the way Sheridan is met by a "friend" from his recent past and given a mission to save Earth from an almost certain destruction that is so difficult that even the great President may have a hard time completing.
Both stories were excellently written and performed, as well as wonderfully directed. JMS should be praised for being able to bring us right back to his wonderful universe with so much time in between visits.
Talen gives The Lost Tales 10/10 _________________ "Historians exercise great power and some of them know it. They recreate the past, changing it to fit their own interpretations. Thus, they change the future as well." - Leto II
