------------------------------------------------------------------------------
==Overview:==
When the Griffin was superceded by heavier units, it was re-tasked as a
long-range fire support machine.
Unfortunately, a new threat took the field that the designers of the Griffin
could never forsee: battle armor. They were small, operated in squads, were
highly mobile, and carried a hard punch. Restricted entirely to long-range
weapons, a Griffin had no choice but to fall back after encountering battle
armor. This proved tactically embarrasing.
Goshen Armory Systems decided that so long as it was re-working one member of
the Classic 55s, it would do the other three as well.
==Capabilities:==
The main alteration was to use Endo Steel in the structure, lightening the
load. Double heat sinks were employed, allowing one heat sink to be dropped
without negatively affecting the performance of the mech.
As a tactical consideration, the single LRM 10 was broken up into a double LRM
5 with the launchers placed in separate torsos. This way, if one launcher is
damaged the other can still fire; a cross-feed mechanism was put in place so
that once the ammo from one bin is spent the other bin can tap into it.
To help the mech better deal with battle armor, the decision was made to give
it short-range armament. An SRM 2 rack was imbedded in the center torso, and a
small laser was placed on the left arm. While this represents only token
armament, it's better than nothing.
CASE was added into both torsos, and a full ton of armor was added as well to
help protect the mech.
==Deployment==
As with the Shadow Hawk, the garrisons of Goshen and Amiga have already
claimed the bulk of the initial runs.

I don't like this so much! The LRM trick is mentioned in the fluff but I think the added shortrange weapons are almost useless against the BattleArmor they were intended to counter! Two medium would have been better (but also more boring i have to admit!). It's oversinked too as it is able to fire everything from the small laser to the LRM'S in a full jump! _________________ Reality is where the Pizza-man comes from!'Gucken, petzen, verpissen!' Perhaps a flamer would be in order. No battlesuit save the Salamander can survive being in a burning hex. _________________ Evil is like a bowl of oranges. Only one, instead, is an orange of DOOM. That orange has a fate to rule over the other oranges with an iron fist. That orange is me.

I wish they hadn't changed the rules about BA and fire...
Overall an impressive take on adding something different to the Griffin. _________________ Karagin Only the dead have seen the end of war. - Plato

No, I don't like the trick with LRM splitting and the improvement here is not worth the effort IMO. I would go different waywith the upgrade. SRMs, while able to launch infernos seems as a bad choice to me. The last thing you need is smoke blocking the LOS. _________________ The dragon NEVER sleeps!

I have to agree with SD on this. Dont like the 2 lighter Lrm launchers. and the srm to me seems out of place. I think because of the original weapons I always thought of the Griffen as a quick response unit to help plug holes or even as a fast response fire support vehicle. This seems to take that ability and change it drastically. Would rather see the short range weapons dropped for a larger LRM launcher with artemis. _________________ Stinger If it's "creepy" to use the Internet, military satellites, and robot aircraft to find a house full of gorgeous young models so I can drop in on them unexpected, then FINE, I'm "creepy".
