This is a redesign of an old upgrade I did for the Battlemaster -1G.

==Overview:==
The BLR-2G is a refit package issued by Davion command, upgrading and updating
the venerable BLR-1G to include recovered technology.
==Capabilities:==
The twin Sperry Browning Machine Guns have been replaced with twin Martell
pulse laser cannons, keeping its anti-infantry capability, while increasing
close-range effectiveness against 'mechs.
The old heat dissipation systems, always struggling against repeated firings
of the PPC and laser battery, has been completely redone using the latest in
"freezer" heat sink technology.
Overall protection has been vastly increased from a threefold approach: the
armor has been upgraded to new Ferro-Fibrous technology, a new CASE system now
guards the missile ammunition bin, and mobility - perhaps the best protection
for any 'mech - has been enhanced with the installation of four massive and
powerful Hildco 10 jump jets, the same kind found on the Highlander.

For the simple expedient of eating tonnage.
Early versions were either many tons underwieght from a straight upgrade (PPC to ERPPC, MGs to SPLs, and heat sinks to doubles), or were loaded down with newtech items like beagles, guardians, pulse lasers, etc

I like the 2G. Good, straight, easy conversion. Upgrades the BattleMaster's forte, which is, ironically enough, everything. The machine is capable of a staggering amount of firepower against a variety of targets, and features an above average movement curve for IS assault. A good brawler or command 'Mech if ever there was one.
Why not replace the Davion version's normal mediums with ER mediums? That would justify double heatsinks, and give it a bit more range, which seems to fit with general Davion tastes.

Because I wanted it to feel like an upgrade, not an overhaul. If you look at the 'mechs in TRO: 2750 and TRO: 3050, you'll notice that most of them have newtech, but not terribly much of it. That's the feel I wanted.

Nice upgrade. JJs on battlemastermay look odd, but with it's armament the BLR will make good use of them. The second variant would be good for militia, but it's getting worse as the technology upgrades and around 3060 it would be outdated. Around 3050 it's still good. The 2G keeps it's usefulness even as the technology advances IMO.

I like both. But I have always been a huge fan of the Battlemaster, my only complaint is the rear firing lasers. I always prefer to have them faceing forward.

EXACTLY one of the aspects I was looking to keep from the original -1G. The Inner Sphere kept pretty much the same versions of their 'mechs around for almost three centuries. Wouldn't it make sense to make the next version at least TRY to have such longevity?
