I did a search and learned that SOMEWHERE out there someone is making models of Leopards and Unions. Does anyone have a clue where to find them?
I also saw some paper models of Macross Mecha, like the Mac II Monster. These would be awesome for 28mm-scale Battletech, IF I can get a hold of them.
Can anyone help me?

What do you think you could charge for a nice Leopard or Union? I saw a real nice one over at Lords of the Battlefield, and the comment field was filled with people begging to buy it.
$250, $300 maybe, for a nice one

You could go to a craft store and get some bake-able modelling clay and make you own...

For the Union I've got in the works at the moment, about 200.00. Opening bays, lights, rotating turrets, actual crew inside the bridge. This is the first one I've done this involved. I've got an idea in the works for a paper model. Like the Leopard,, it'd be free.

I've got one in the works, but I've seen one or two out there that look to be commercially produced. (See my reply to mud)
A full-scale Union would take a doo-doo load of clay, IMO. But I can think of a few other possibilities for clay, though . . . .

A 28mm scale Union?? 4.5 /feet/ in diameter!?? Wow, that would be impressive

...now that sounds promising...certainly moreso that messing around with paper mache' and a balloon.
Still, I'd want a shell to go over the styrofoam. (who does know how to spell this word?)

The work in progress is built from a float ball out of a livestock water trough. 1/8 inch thick hard plastic. Very durable. I even bounced it off he neighbor's pig's nose when she was over trashing my place. Didn't even leave a mark on the ship.
What the pig? Oh, that's why God invented paintball guns

Thought about it. Styrofoam's a bugger to get smoothed out, and I never found one big enough.
But for a Mule though . . . Not a bad idea. Not bad at all.

Ummmmmm, I was actually thinking along Classic lines. Mainly because my wife would slaughter me if I took over our house with a project that big.
However, I don't think she knows of my plans for 1/72-scale Battletech.

My mentor uses the spheres of the lighted planet model for the base to make a Union and any other spheroid style that suits his fancy! You can order them on line and at any craft hobby store. Hobby Town use to stock them. I've seen them at the Target and Walmart stores at various times. Pretty cheap and can be sanded and cut and glued as a person wishes.

I quite often wish I were more handy and could do cool things like paint my own minis or craft my own models. As it is, I'll have to live with my programming skills being my bread-and-butter. _________________ Mordel Blacknight - Site Administrator

My skills limit me to painting the minis at this time. But he is teaching me. You'd be surprised at how little knowledge it takes to scratch build. Then again I have a person who is taking the time to teach me!
