Ok, I'm working on setting up the Bar & Grill for the new layout, and want to take the opportunity to modify the categories and forums as needed. So I'm looking for input.
The baseline is our current setup. What do you think is not needed or what do you think should be added. I can tell you the Deck Builder category as well as the betting one will go away. The PBEM one will remain but will be hidden to everyone. With that, I'll be more willing to let others use my site for running their games as the forums can be hidden.
I'd like feedback. This is your chance to shape the B&G to what you want. Remember though, not all comments will be implemented.

I know nothing about mod's roundtable, but I don't think that it is needed for those who don't have access to it.
Deck builder forums... I don't play BT cards, but maybe that these forums would be absorbed by general discussion, or general gaming, not vanishing entirely.
Non-Classic BattleTech Forums...
Well, maybe fusing the announcements and enhancements forums. And maybe adding News and Headlines to them... (I think that this wouldn't create one fairly frequented category, rather than three rarely visited).
Play by e-mail...
I wonder if they wouldn't be hidden as a subcategory in general gaming - read only for those who aren't members, just to allow those who are curious (me  ) to see what's happening there.

It's a safe bet that any forum that you don't have access too will be hidden from you...

I think that with keeping with the "Bar and Grill" theme that the forums should have specific titles:
maybe you could even render a 3-d picture of the B&G with hot links to each section

Well, one thing I've noticed is the more specific a forum is the more likely you are to attract people that like to talk about that topic. It is harder for the folks that like to read every thread, but overall it's better for a message board to attract people that may not be interested in culling through pages of threads looking for one topic that interests them.
Having separated forums also allows for more hits on searches, which will also attract more people to the forum.
Mordel's used to be THE spot for Battletech conversations, and I think with just the few changes Scott is talking about and a few tweaks to the forums there's no reason this site can't be #3 behind CBT and BC.

Yeah after looking at Chihawks list again. the only thing I might suggest is a Mech yard section in the miniture section. Mabey somewhere we can commission someone to do a paint job for us. Or even sell minitures.
Now before you blast me, I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS EVEN LEGAL FOR MORDEL TO DO, AND IF HE EVEN WANTS TO ADD THIS, AND OPEN UP THIS CAN OF WORMS.

I like the look and feel of this. When you put your cursor over it then it can give more detail of what it is.
Problem with too many segments is it may feel restricting to some. So which part do I put my post in? And what happens as the topic drifts? Or like me, I look about 4 segments consistently, so even more breakdowns may make it rough for me and others to give a damn.
