Before reading on, I would like to point out that I discovered this design on a website and I am in no way trying to take credit for either it, or the picture. I simply want some veteran opinion on the design.

Overview:
Clan Snow Raven, after loosing a cache of battlemechs to
Clan Hell's Horse's elementals, designed and
manufactured the Veloceraptor. Designed for
anti-elemental combat, the Veloceraptor remains a
formidable all purpose mech.
Capabilities:
The Veloceraptor has two main variants one designed for
close range combat and the other for long range combat.
Both variants remain moderately ammo dependant. The
Snow Raven's fondness for aerospace technology is
obvious, as all variants come with state of the art jump
jets. What makes this mech so unusual and what gives it
its name are the dual large ER lasers on the legs of the
mech. Used in both variants the large ER lasers are
placed on the legs inside specialized weapon pods with
independently moving actuators for stability. The
placement of the lasers provide better targeting against
elementals. The Veloceraptors speed and jump jet
maneuverability allow it to stay out of harms way in the
face of overwhelming elemental attacks, while the mech's
8 machine guns can deal serious damage when forced
into close range combat. The Primary variant carries twin
Streak SRM 6 launchers which augment the close range
firepower of its 8 machine guns, while the Alt A variant
sports twin LRM 15 launchers in place of the Streak SRM
6's. While not much separates the two variants, given the
Snow Raven's immense aerospace budget the production
of such an advanced mech proves the intellect of their
scientist caste.
Deployment:
While this mech has yet to seen action in the inner sphere
there have been rumors of these mechs being used in real
combat in clan space.

Ya know, I am not sure why, but I really DONT like the the weapons load out. There is something about them that bothers me, and it may be the abundance of machine guns. But I like the speed profile, and the name, but just not sure about the weapons load out.
I guess because to me when I do get the chance to play, we rarely ever use elementals or infantry, the few times we have used elementals I just dont remember machine guns being that effective. Granted 8 may be a bit more effective agains the toads.

The mech doesn't look bad, but just like Stinger I don't think that I would use this weapons layout.
Primary configuration may be a little better in anti-elemental work thanks to the SRMs, but I can't help myself when seeing the leg mounted lasers and torso mounted missiles, but to wonder what was the designer expecting from the elementals. The elementals are the most likely to use ambushes and attacks from various directions from all clan units, so a limited firing arc (not counting the MGs) hampers the mech. Not to mention that there are no hand actuators that would help to fend off swarming elementals. The leg mounted LLs are also quit weird, since they are direct fire weapons and are mounted low to the ground, so many obstacles may stop them from firing, both in reality and in game.
I would rather repod a Stormcrow or a Mad Dog.

Ok the more I got to thinking about this mech the more I realized that I just dont see the clans doing something like this at all. A dedicated elemental hunter platform and a Omni at that is just well, wasteful. And SD pointed out the toe mounted LG laser (which I didnt notice till now, thank you SD, that is what I get for only glancing at the fluff). So here is my retake on the mech. I am not sure how he got all that in there with out Endo steel, though I am guessing that I am just missing it in he unit break down so anyway here we go I added 2 new variants and tried to keep it all the same (or at least as much as I could)
Let me know what you think.

Shortly after the first Veloceraptor walked off of the assembly lines they saw immediate action. Though they fared well against a single point of elementals, a startling picture became clear to the pilots of the Veloceraptor. Against mechs they were generally horribly outclassed, as the toe mounted laser was usually unable to fire, and it was found that the linkage in the toe section could cause the firing circuts to be severd for the laser, robbing the Velociraptor of its 2 primary weapons. That and warrior complaints about performance required some changes.
Alt B is a close range weapons platform, dropping the Er LG Lasers for 6 ER Medium mounted 3 to a arm for a wide firing arch's. These back up the pair of torso mounted LRM 15's, for the occasinal elemental work 4 SM Pulse lasers were added to reduice the amount of ammo carrierd in the fully armored frame.

Better than the two original variants.
B is quite dangerous at range, but it's true power lies in medium laser barrage that will probably deal with elementals much better than the MGs would, and doing so without having to get within elemental's reach.
C tries to deal with highly accurate firepower. I doubt that the elementals will like it. LLs can crack elemental's shell and SRMs will just finish the work. A good idea that was already tried with prime config.
I would move some small lasers to legs (just to keep up with mech's name, because the dinosaur was known for big, saber like claws)

Yeah should be an easy fix. Though I just dont like leg mounted weapons. I kind of see them as rear faceing weapons.

Rear facing weapons have at least some meaningful purpose (not that they are exceptionally useful, but...), leg mounted weapons are useful only for fluff or because there was no space elsewhere.

This design reminds me of a city fighter I once designed, for fighting infantry and light vehicles. was a gun boat with 12 mG's and two med lasers. I will find it then post it. Too expensive for pratical use, though
