I created this as a personal custom for one of the villains in a campaign I was trying to run.

After a few battles, he noted a recurring tactic: whenever a fire support mech such as his was spotted on the battlefield, the enemy commander would inevitably dispatch some light, fast units (such as hovercraft, mechanized infantry, or even light mechs) to flank the unit, get within its minimum ranges, and chip at its armor.

He soon realized that he could exploit this to destroy said enemy units. He ripped out his LRM-20 launchers and their Artemis IV systems and went to work.

He chose to use twin AC/5s as his primary weapons due to their reliability and low heat. He chose to have two tons of ammo per autocannon so that he would have plenty of munitions during an extended campaign.

As he was going to be fighting in close, he then decided to use some of the extra tonnage to improve his close-ranged weapons. He added another forward-firing medium laser as an all-around system. Twin machine guns and twin rocket launchers were added to deal with infantry and battle armor.

An ECM system was added to the mix to help prevent units with an active probe from scanning his mech and realizing the modifications.

An Archer without LRMs is, well, not an Archer...

interesting modification of the Archer. The tactic of taking out support units is a good idea, baiting the enemy in such a manner, is very sneaky and might be used to full advantage with extra support/bait around.

That depends upon whether or not he can kill them before they have time to get out a message.

BTW, if you want to see sneaky then I'll try and dust off the Griffin mod I made..... it has an Arrow IV.
